In Memory

I have entered an age group that I thought would be a long way off. Today I learned that my friend Leslea lost her Mom - Argel Henthorn passed away on Sunday. I was friends with Leslea in Junior High - middle school now a days - during our 7th grade year we had every class together - yup, the exact same schedule. I spent a lot of time over at her house and I loved her Mom. Her Mom was a very tiny lady - I used to give her a hard time about being short - I would go stand next to her and measure her against me saying - Let's see if you've grown any. She called me the Hot Fudge kid. I'm not sure how that started but I think she made hot fudge from scratch one time when I was there and it was delicious - every time I would come over after that I would ask if we were having Hot Fudge. One year for my birthday she made me my own little pot of fudge. It was weird - last weekend I was thinking about Leslea and her parents after I saw the movie Mamma Mia. You see - Leslea and I were huge ABBA fans - I think we wore out the album that we had. One weekend we decided to put on a show for her parents - we made signs, programs, and had costume changes. We performed to the whole album - bless her parents they sat through the whole thing - applauding - we had a blast. I don't remember the last time I saw Leslea or her Mom but I will always have the memories.

This has made me very aware that even though we feel like our parents will be around forever there will come a time when they aren't here anymore. My heart goes out to Leslea - I know she was as close to her Mom as I am to mine. I do not know what I will do when I lose my Mom.

I Thought I Was Crabby

Well - the bicycle topic certainly got some people talking - or should I say blogging!! That's the best reaction I've gotten from any of my posts!

Today I went on my regular Starbucks run around 900 with BJ - Nic joined us today. We witnessed what I think was the crankiest woman standing in line waiting for her caffeine fix. We got in line and there was a girl in front of us - three of her co-workers had already gotten their coffee and stopped to talk with her and wish her a Happy Birthday! A few seconds after they left a couple more co-workers and her boss came in and they went up to her and started talking and wishing her a happy birthday - the boss said he wanted to pay for her drink - everything was fine. It was at this moment in time that a lady standing behind us must have been getting a little irritated with the loud talking or something - someone in the birthday group said to the rest of the line "sorry we just wanted to wish her a happy birthday" the lady behind us piped up with "we've all been standing here - it's not like we have jobs we need to get back to" I thought for sure she must have just been cracking a joke - like you know take as long as you want so we don't have to go back to work. I turned around - she was dead serious! The well wishers said - we just wanted to wish her a happy birthday - we're not cutting in line. The cranky lady said - oh, you're not all ordering drinks - I thought you were all ordering. The look on her face was like she wanted to hit someone - she was definitely not having a good day. As we were all waiting at the other end to get are drinks the birthday crew was there also - the boss asked where the lady was - I said "oh, you mean the cranky one. I think she left" we talked about how we all thought she was joking until we looked at her. The boss said he was going to offer to buy her a coffee because it seemed like she really needed some caffeine!

That was pretty much all of the excitement today. Tomorrow is a company outing to a place called The Garage - it is an hip bowling place - we have a private room reserved and there will be food and drinks - company gives us 2 drink tickets - which means the company will pay for two of your drinks. There are a few of us in the finance department that either don't drink or only have one so the extra drink tickets become a hot commodity! People will start trying to get promises for extra tickets early in the day.

On a bit of a sad note - I meant to blog about this over the weekend - Professor Randy Pausch passed away at the age of 47. This is the professor who became well known after videos of his "Last Lecture" made their way to YouTube (over 5 million views) If you have never heard this lecture you need to. The full lecture is an hour - I am going to post it here for you. He was very inspiring - his Last Lecture was also put out in book form.

Blogs

Yesterday's blog got Jason riled up about cyclists - he couldn't put all his feelings in a comment so he added a posting to his blog about it! He usually posts stories about his kids - his oldest Austin is a character so if you need a good chuckle go to his blog.

Putbory - she sits next to me at work - has a differing opinion regarding the new .20 tax on grocery bags - she also blogs so if you want to read what she thinks head on over to Putbory.com.

I have purchased a domain! If you have trouble remember the path to this blog the new domain name is much easier to remember and will still get you to this page. Just type in www.wazzudb.com . Working for an Internet company has really paid off! Eventually I hope to enhance this blog with more bells and whistles - I purchased a book - yeah I know surprise surprise! The book is called Web Design for Dummies - who knows - maybe I have found a new calling!

My cell contract with Sprint is finally up on 9/1/08!! I would love to know which carrier you use and whether or not you're happy with them. If I decide to get another family plan with L I definitely need to go with one that has unlimited calling as she constantly goes over on the minutes. I know my sister has AT&T because she has the iPhone - I'm not planning on getting an iPhone so I'm not sure if AT&T is the way to go - Hey C if you didn't have an iPhone would you still be with AT&T?

Almost BB10 time!

Rants - Rambling

Have you been watching the news or reading the newspaper lately. What is going on with people in Seattle?

A few weeks ago an older gentleman in Seattle, who had planted flowers in the traffic circle in his neighborhood, was watering the plants - he pulled a hose across the road and put up an orange cone to block cars from driving over it - cars could still go the other way around the circle as it's not an extremely busy road. Well - a group of women in a car didn't want to drive the other way and an altercation ensued - at one point one of the girls called a friend to tell him they were being disrespected. He showed up - an argument ensued - the guy sucker punched the 60+ year old man - he fell to the ground hitting his head - he died the next day. How does this happen - how do you go from watering a garden to being a murder victim.

Yesterday a group of 100 bicyclists - called Critical Mass - were doing their monthly demonstration - they ride in a large group and block off cars to try and make a point that we should share the road. They blocked one driver from being able to pull out of a parking spot - he got nervous as he was surrounded - he nudged his car forward bumping into some of the cyclists - they in turn surrounded his car - banging on it - and ended up smashing the rear window, punching the driver through his open window, and slashing all 4 of the tires.

So what have our elected officials been doing to try and make our city a safer place - well they passed a new tax today - you now have to pay .20 per plastic/paper bag at the grocery store if you don't bring your own reusable bags with you. My-Oh-My I guess stopping people from using plastic and paper and possibly not recycling them is more important than working on ways to keep citizens safe.

OK - enough ranting for today

Just Another Sunday

Just another Sunday - slept in - read the Sunday paper - which of course consists of the coupons, Target Ad, Rants & Raves, and the comics! L and I were going to head out to Target but she got a call from a friend before we left so she went and hung out with them and I went on to Target. Never a good thing to go to Target when you're bored and don't really have a plan! I did some shopping for our Chelan trip - got a cooler - got some travel size items - paper plates - pop.

One of my favorite movies was on Encore when I got back - Bull Durham! So I watched that - I like Kevin Costner baseball movies - Bull Durham - Field of Dreams - For The Love of The Game. Encore is having a Kevin Costner marathon and the put up there that he has been in more baseball movies than any other actor. He's good in them!

Right now Big Brother is on - I have been looking at the Big Brother blog so I already know what's happening because the live feeds are quite a few days ahead of what is actually shown on the show - but it's fun to watch anyways. There is one couple - Ollie/April - that have had sex at least 3 times according to the blog. How could you do that when there are so many other people in the house and there are cameras everywhere - knowing that anyone could be watching the live feeds and seeing you - like family!! ewwwww!!!! I so hope they get Jesse out this coming week - he is so full of himself - Jesse loves Jesse!

I discovered that my Uncle Guru Singh has some things on iTunes! How weird is that! I have subscribed to his podcasts and I am thinking about getting his album Guru Singh, Seal, and Friends. I wonder if he's met Heidi Klum!

I'm gonna go get some fresh air - Muppet has some serious gas tonight!!

Mamma Mia - Here I Go Again

I saw the movie Mamma Mia - it was so good - just as good as the live musical. They followed the storyline - it was just like watching the musical but with more scenery - the blue water - the Greek Islands - it was beautiful. The only differences were an added song towards the end at the wedding dinner and the song Take A Chance On Me was performed in a different part. Overall - Loved It!!! I could go see it again and I will definitely be buying this when it comes out on DVD. There was one downside - the group of ladies sitting behind me didn't stop talking almost the whole movie - when they weren't talking they were laughing real loud - and then singing along. I think I need to see it again without the additional background noise. When you go see this movie you need to stay through the first part of the ending credits - what happens during this part is exactly what happens at the end of the live show - it's so fun!!! Oh - if you are a true child of the 70's and a huge ABBA fan - like me - you will have noticed that one of the members of ABBA is in the movie!! Let me know if you saw him!!!

After the movies it was off to. . . . . . . . . Barnes and Noble! Bad news - I bought books, Good News - they were from the $6.98 and under table! While I was there I bought some cards too. I discovered that getting old sucks while I was there - How you may ask! Well - when I was looking at cards I knelt down to look at ones on the bottom of the rack - then I needed to get back up - the knees didn't want to do that! I had visions of the old lady on the commercials who says "I've fallen and I can't get up!" I also had a vision of me using the card rack to assist and having it topple over on to me! Luckily neither of those happened - I just gritted my teeth and forced the knees to work!

I ended up getting my way about the Chelan vacation without looking like the mean Mom! I told L she could go ahead and invite Jenny - awww that's Jenny's B-day weekend and she already has plans. Then L wanted to invite Kelley - aww Kelley already has plans. Looks like it's going to be a quiet vacation!

L is out with friends right now - I am just chillin' on the couch. Muppet and I were going to go to a park today but the weather has turned into your typical Washington summer day - cloudy - 60s - chance of rain - windy. I did stop by the Issaquah Farmer's Market before the movie and I picked up fresh blueberries, raspberries, and Rainier Cherries. I was going to bring Muppet with me for that part - good thing I didn't because dogs aren't allowed inside the market - not sure why - it's all outdoors.

Wii is Wee

I am lovin my Wii Fit!!! I've had it for a few weeks now but I couldn't figure out how to sync it up with the Wii console - luckily my Tech Ops / IT Support person (L) was feeling helpful and was home after work - she synced it up and we have been playing with it ever since! First you do the basic testing so it can calculate your BMI and come up with a plan. Then you move on to training. So far we have run in place, Hula Hooped, hit soccer balls off our head, slalom ski racing, and now we are walking the tightrope - which is the most difficult so far - neither L or are are very balanced people! It comes up and tells us that we are unbalanced!! I was trying the tightrope and then L wanted to give it a try but didn't switch characters - it wouldn't work for her because the Wii Fit board could tell that she wasn't me - she's a bit lighter than I am! Dang - it won't let you cheat!

Things have actually been going pretty well between us the last few weeks - so I've decided to test it of course! L and I are going to take a 3 day weekend vacation. I found a place over on Lake Chelan for a fairly decent price - can I just say OMG!! They charge an arm and a leg for peak season over there!!! Anyways - I found a place called Kelly's Resort - thanks to Kim. They have individual cottages and I can bring my dog! There is a pool, swimming area at the beach, little store, walking trails, gas barbecue at the cottage - I am so excited!!! I hope everything goes well - L seems to be excited and hasn't even asked about whether there is Internet or whined about not seeing her friends. I told her we would leave early on the Friday and I would drop her off at Slidewaters and Muppet and I will go chill in town - we can't check in until 3:00 but we might as well enjoy the day! We will definitely drive out to Manson and see what Nana and Papa's old house looks like - I miss our family vacations that we took there. Maybe this will be a new tradition for L and I - if it's a great place to stay then maybe next time Colleen, Tony, and the fam come up we will have to head out there. I am so happy right now to have something to look forward to!

This weekend Muppet and I may head to a local park on Puget Sound - depends on the weather! I did some research on parks int he area - never really knew there were so many. I printed out directions to a few - some are an hour or so away and another is just 30 min away. I will keep you posted.

***UPDATE** L called me at work this morning wanting to know if she can bring a friend to Chelan with us. I said No - she started bitching about not having anyone there and was I going to just sit and read all day and she will be bored. I said her choices were to either go to CHelan just her and I or she could stay home and hang with her friends. Well she didn't like that because she wants it her way. Let me know what you think!*****

Thursday?!?

It is never a good day when you think it is later int he week than it actually is. I thought it was Thursday today! At work Jason was wearing his "Friday" shirt which he has actually been wearing on Thursday's lately - I told him to tell his wife to hang it in the closet so that it comes up in rotation on Fridays because his wearing it on Thursdays is messing up my week - Jason was like - um isn't today Wednesday - crap! Now I'm really messed up! I thought I was almost through the week and I'm not. I think entering invoices yesterday when I usually do it on Wednesday messed me up too - but I'll just keep blaming Jason!

No L drama in the last couple of weeks. This morning when I came out of room to finish getting ready to head to work I found L and her friend Kelly sleeping on the couch - nothing dramatic about that - when I came all the way into the living room though I was able to see the bottle of Skyy Vodka sitting on the floor between the two of them. 1. I hate the fact that they were drinking in my house while I was asleep 2. Where did they get the vodka and 3. How were they able to afford the expensive stuff. So - a little drama - no trauma - and no yelling.

I am dealing with some painful tendinitis in my wrist - brought on by working on the computer. I have been wearing a brace to try and help when I am at work but it doesn't seem to be working. If anyone has any remedies please leave me a comment. Right now I have a bag of frozen peas on it!

My Best Friend

I love my best friend Lyd! She has a sixth sense and knows when I am having one of my "I Hate My Life "days. I don't know how she does it. Today was one of those days. I was almost home when my phone rang - I knew it was her because her ring tone is "I'll Be There For You (Theme from Friends)" She had just left work and wanted to know if I could meet her at Costco and then maybe go get a bite to eat. Hmmm . . . sit at home and be depressed or go to Costco ...not a tough choice. Off to Costco to meet Lyd. I haven't been to Costco in awhile - mostly because I don't have a lot of room for stuff in the freezer/refrigerator or pantry. I did manage to find a few things though! Lyd and her husband are heading out on a camping trip this weekend so she was getting all the things she needed for that. They are heading up to Canada - she was going to get fruits and veggies but I told her she needed to check on the web because there are things that you aren't allowed to bring across the border. After Costco we headed to Red Robin - our regular standby! When we were being led back to a table it looked like we were going to the same exact table we always seem to get but they sat us somewhere else - as we were walking back there though Lyd said - Oh No and I was thinking the same thing - how could we possibly keep getting the same table!! We sat down at around 645 and didn't leave until 845 - the food was OK - the burger were really pink inside but we were both really hungry so we ate most of it and then just let our server know. The manager came by and thanked us for letting them know and said that he had adjusted the cook timer. No comp on our bill though - that would have been sweet. Lyd and I talked and talked.

It's great to have a best friend!

Beauty = Pain or Pain = Beauty?

Who knew you needed to break in new slip on tennis shoes - my new red converse with white polka dots were very painful!! The backs of the shoes have no cushion and rubbed my heels and pressed in to them all day - I have bruises!! The shoes are cute - but I don't think I will be able to wear them again. :( I am not one who will suffer through pain for cute shoes.

L has made a small step - she sent me a text today asking if I could drive her to take her written test for her drivers license on Saturday morning! Wow - actually thinking ahead and making a plan- who woulda thought.

I drove in to work today and had to slam on my brakes twice! The stupid driver in front of me wasn't paying attention - twice he slammed on his brakes and swerved over to the side which left me heading straight for a stopped car. God was watching over me and my brakes worked!

Good News - I found the cord for my camera! I will be uploading my pics from a couple weekends ago and will try to get them posted tomorrow.

Time to head to bed - watch The Closer - get ready for another day!

Sunday - Sunday - Sunday

This is the day where I always have great ideas/plans of things to do but usually end up being a couch potato! Today's plan was to straighten up my room, go grocery shopping for cat/dog food and other items, maybe hang out at Starbucks and read a book. What actually happened was I straightened up my room, found a small bag of cat food in my car so I didn't really have to go to the store, started watching a program on TLC called The New Detectives - yup ended up it was a marathon of episodes so that's what I did - sat around the house watching this show. Sunday is a day of rest!!

Well - not too much rest - Muppet has been a very bad girls today - she has peed on the carpet 3 times!!! The last time was just now right in front of me!! We just went outside 20 min ago how can she have to pee again already - and to do it right in front of my chair!! She is now locked in a small part of the kitchen. Oh - and she has a puppy pad in the kitchen but she doesn't go there to pee - nooooooo - and when I'm at work she can be in the kitchen the whole time and never go!!! Not my cute little puppy girl today.

When I got up this morning I was sitting on my bed reading the paper and eating a bowl of cereal when L's bedroom door opened - I looked up expecting to see L - but nope it was her friend Vince heading to the bathroom and then out to the deck for a morning smoke. When he was done he headed back in to L's room with my cat Buffy. I went in to the kitchen for more cereal and L came out. I was like - uhh how many people are sleeping in your room - she said just her, Vince, and Jenny. They decided to have a slumber party. Good thing I was sitting in a T-shirt and sweats when he walked out of L's room!! I am usually just in a T-shirt.

Now it's time for me to figure out what's for dinner and then get ready for Monday.

Batman - The Dark Knight

Saturday started very early - I got up at 700 and then woke L up at 730 - she is soooooo not a morning person! She is so cranky and her smart mouth is even worse. I didn't let it get to me this morning though - we were going to go see Batman! The show started at 930 and I didn't know if there would be a line to get in and get seats so we left at 815 - got to the theater and no line. Oh well - if we hadn't gotten there so early there would have been a line. We got our tickets and then went to QFC to pick up a few items and then headed back to the theater. I had gotten movie candy last night at Target so all we needed to do was get popcorn and pop - breakfast of champions!! There were a lot of people having popcorn for breakfast! I discovered that Junior Caramels eaten at the same time as popcorn makes caramel corn - YUM!!! Junior Caramels are from the same people that make Junior Mints - just replace the mint with caramel. After sitting through way too many commercials and previews the movie finally started. I promised in yesterday's post that I wouldn't ruin the movie for anyone so all I will say is that it lived up to the hype - Heath Ledger was an incredible actor who left this world way too soon - if I hadn't known it was him playing the joker I would never had guessed - the change in his voice - the little ticks he gave the character - he had a great career ahead of him and will be missed. I won't be surprised if he is nominated for an Oscar next year.

L and I made it through the day without any arguments!! That was a nice experience. She never said Thank You for the movie, candy, and popcorn but she has always been like that - manners were never her strong suit. I didn't make a big deal out of it so the day ended without any incidences.

I'm going to go read my book now and enjoy the rest of my Saturday!

Pens, Paper, Binders. . . . . . .

Nah - I never did remember what I was thinking about yesterday! It is lost in the black hole of my mind!! Dang it!

I went to Target today after work to get some movie candy for L and I - we are going to go see Batman tomorrow morning at 930! It's been a few weeks since I went in to a Target - nothing good can ever come of this. I started in the clothing department and the T-Shirts I really like were on sale for $6 each - so I grabbed a few - then it was on through electronics - nothing jumped out at me there - Thank goodness - No good DVDs had come out so I was safe. It was next to the book department - yup - I found a book to get!! I then walked nonchalantly down the aisle and as I turned the corner there it was - Back To School Supplies!!!!! I love back to school supplies - even though I haven't been in school for quite awhile. I'm not sure what it is about them but I start looking at all the fun binders, new pens/pencils, spiral notebooks - and I just want to buy them and get all organized! Of course - I have no idea what I would do with a binder and spiral notebook. As I walked further down the aisles I came across. . . . . . . . . . .fun stuff for your dorm room!! Man - why didn't they have cool stuff like this when I was in school. When we needed stackable shelves we had to go out late at night - make our way down to Rosauers (grocery store) and carefully grab milk crates!! We would then have to carry them back up to campus without being seen. I had those milk crates for all 4 years at WSU and then I used them in my first apartment!! Now you can just buy things like that at Target - I think my way was kinda fun though and it makes for a great story!

Do you like school supplies or is just another one of my idiosyncrasies?

I am so excited to go see Batman tomorrow morning!! I will let you know if it lives up to the hype but I won't give anything away - I hate when reviewers tell you all the good parts form a movie and then ruin the ending.

Great Idea!

Ah man - I think I have early onset Alzheimers. When I was at work today I had a great idea for my blog - it wasn't just about my day it was going to contemplate something. At work I thought - hmmm maybe I should right it down or email it to myself - nah I'll remember it because it's a great idea. Yup - got home, sat down with my laptop, and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . nothing! Dang it - I can't remember it! I keep going over my day but nothing is jogging my memory. Maybe when I go back to work tomorrow something will trigger it - for right now it is just stuck inside my head!!! This is going to bug me all night - I'll probably wake up at 3 in the morning and remember it! If I do I'm writing it down! Getting old sucks!

I'm going to go make dinner - if I can remember how!

Smoothie Day

Got up this morning and Muppet was doing a little bit better - she took her pill pockets but wouldn't take her crunchy cookie - L said she slept most of the morning and when I got home she was back to her regular bouncy, dancing self. Must have been a 24 hour doggy flu.

Work was fun today - well not the actual work part! This morning People Services (you probably know it as HR) sent out an email inviting us all to the 413 building for a smoothie party from 200 - 300. It was really cool - they had Dr Smoothie come set up on the deck at the 413 building and they made smoothies to order! I had an orange tangerine and it was great! I brought it back to my building cause I was busy today entering invoices. I got in at 730 and stayed until 530 - but I got everything entered!

What is up with summer TV - there's either nothing on or everything is on the same day - for example tonight Big Brother and SYTYCD are on at the same time - and SYTYCD (which is 2 hours) is on at the same time as the new Project Runway. Thank goodness for DVRs and the ability to watch some of this stuff on the web. I decided I am going to watch SYTYCD real time and will watch the recordings of the others.

It's A Good Day

Today was a great day. I got up on time - reconciled credit card statements with receipts at work- left work on time - and it was sunny! Couldn't ask for anything more. I stopped at the grocery store on my way home to pick up fixins for spaghetti - Lindsay was IMing me about how good hers was last night and that she had some for lunch today so I was craving it. I got french bread too because I like to put some of the spaghetti on top of a piece of buttered bread and eat it like a sandwich - sooooo good!

See - things were going so well today I should have known it couldn't last! I get all the groceries up to the house - I hate living on the third floor after grocery shopping - and go in to the kitchen to let Muppet out. She wasn't jumping around and dancing - first clue something wasn't right - she didn't move real fast when I unlatched the gate and just sat on the carpet - second clue - and then I saw it. The heat must have really gotten to her today because she had thrown up in 3 spots in the kitchen. Eeeewwwww! I cleaned it up and then went to clean her face and that's when I saw that she must have laid down close to one of the spots because she had throw up in her fur. Eeeewwwww. Got her cleaned up and then sat with her in a chair in front of the fan. I sprayed her down a bit with water to try and cool her off. Muppet wasn't feeling any better - she wouldn't take her pill pocket - which meant I had to force her meds down her - she's really good at cheeking!

I did eat my spaghetti and it tasted really good. Big Brother 10 is on again tonight - Yay!!

I am going to go have a Lemonade Fruit Bar - settle in to watch Big Brother - and go to bed!

Big Brother is Back!

Happy Monday - yuck! I slept through my alarm this morning - Muppet was kind enough to have a seizure at 600 this morning though to wake me up. It was a short one and she recovered quickly. I got to work at 800 - which isn't late it's just later than i had been getting there. Quarter End is almost closed - the auditors will be here on Wednesday to make sure we did everything - dotted our Is and crossed our Ts.

My favorite summer time show is back on - Big Brother 10 - I really like that show and like to follow along with the Big Brother Blog - if you don't mind spoilers the blog is the way to go. I like that the show is on 3 days a week - especially when there is nothing else to watch during the summer. It is definitely a guilty pleasure! Last night was the first episode and then it will be on again Tues and Thurs. I don't have a favorite yet but I do have one I want out of the house fast - Renny, a loud mouthed beautician from New Orleans. If I were in that house she would drive me absolutely insane.

My new favorite summer time treat - Lemon Flavored Dreyers Fruit Bars - it is like frozen lemonade on a stick - yum! When it is warm outside you need to eat it fast or else it makes a sticky mess - as learned this evening!

I didn't see much of L this past weekend - haven't really seen her since the huge fight about rent and moving out last week. I still need to talk to her about either working full-time or getting herself registered for school. I saw her briefly tonight when she got home from work and then headed right back out. I didn't want to get into it with her though because I don't know what is going to set her temper off. I think I am going to put it in a letter and leave it on her door.

Have a good week ~

Sun - Friends - Salmon!

Yesterday was wonderful! The weather was great - I got to see Auntie Jan, Adam, Christina, and their families - I got t have fresh salmon at Lydia's! Definitely jam packed!

The day started with cleaning my room up a bit - it was the coolest part of the house because the fan was on all night and the sun comes up on the other side of the house. I was folding clothes standing in front of the fan when I smelled a sweet, distinctive odor. I got put my trusty quarter - which is used to unlock L's room - quickly opened the door and caught her by her window with her fan turned on exhaust and a pipe in her hand - Yup, she has now turned to smoking pot in my house. She gave me a look and I told her I can smell it coming in through my window - her reaction was just an Oh and nothing else.

I left to go meet up with the La Plant clan in Kent - Christina and family were over here from Spokane for Paige's select soccer tournament. I was able to see them, Auntie Jan, Adam, and his new son Erik - well not so new he just turned a year old but it was the first opportunity I had to see him. He has the most beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes. So cute! After the soccer game we went to the Rainforest Cafe for a late lunch. I have never been there before - kind noisy - but good food. Thank goodness for my Garmin! I didn't get lost going to the soccer fields and then to the restaurant! I then used it to get to Lydia's house from there!

Lydia and Ron went fishing yesterday on the sound out by Des Moines. I got a picture mail on my phone yesterday morning showing Lydia and the fish she caught! Amazing! 17 pounds! I texted back with a whens dinner! Most of my family knows that I am not a seafood fan - but the way Lyd and Ron barbecue salmon is really good! This was no different - excellent job - very delicious! I stayed there and watched the movie 300 on HBO after dinner and then came home. By the time I got home, walked Muppet, and settled in it was too late for me to write - my eyes were not wanting to stay open!

Today I haven't decided what I am going to do. I just got done going through my closet and dresser and pulling out the clothes I haven't worn in awhile. I have to be in the mood to discard or else I end up keeping everything. I have a good pile of stuff to give away. It's another nice day and I really could use some color so I may just go hang at the pool for a little bit and read now. I kinda need to do some grocery shopping but I won't starve if I don't do it today.

I have pics of Paige, Haley, and Erik but I can't post them right now because I can't locate my cord to connect my camera to my Mac - I think L may have borrowed it but I can't find anything in her room and she is still asleep - let sleeping dogs lie!! I got up at 430 this morning and she wasn't home but when I woke up again at 800 she was so I'm not sure when she finally rolled into the house. Hopefully I can post the pics later today.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Now A Word From The Cat

Hey - Buffy here - I'm the healthy cat in the house. Not sure what's going on with the other animals but I hope it's not catching. It was weird yesterday - Mom just came running into the house - went out to that closet on the deck and grabbed the plastic cage. The plastic cage is never a good sign - it means someone is going for a ride in the car and I certainly didn't want it to be me! I was just about to go hide under the bed when Mom swooped in and grabbed Niki. Alright - it's not me! They were gone for . . . . . . . ah let's be real here - I can't tell time and days all seem the same to me so I don't know how long they were gone. I do know that when they got home Mom forgot to let Niki out of the cage! I just sat and stared at her through the wire door.

My day starts early - as soon as I hear Mom turn the water on in the bathroom I come running - I can hear that faucet from any room in the house! I jump up on the counter and push my way to the sink - Mom and I play a game - I jump up - she puts me back down - I jump up - she puts me back down. This can go on for awhile! When I get bored with that I sit on the toilet and knock things off the bathroom counter with my paw. My favorite thing right now is this hard thing Mom uses to clip her nails - it makes a loud noise!

While Mom's at work I spend my time sleeping - playing with my mice - and jumping over the gate in the kitchen so I can torment Muppet. It's funny because she can't get out and I can jump over the gate or escape by getting up on the counters and walking around. Last week I decided to take a nap so I made Muppet lie on the kitchen floor and I slept in her bed. It was kinda nice!

I need to get lots of sleep during the day so I can run around the house at night. I can run from the kitchen - down the hall - up and over mom's bed - and back out before L and her know what's happened! I am very fast. When it's time to sleep I like to curl up in the middle of Mom's bed - she certainly moves around a lot - she's knocked all of us off the bed a time or two - Muppet makes the loudest noise when she falls off - probably because she doesn't land lightly on her feet like me.

I am named after Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It fits me because I am the only surviving kitty from my family (sissy Joie died 2 years ago) - I am the chosen one of my generation! (Buffy fans will get the reference!)

Adrenalin

Wow - I think I am finally coming down from an adrenalin rush! No - I did not take drugs - I didn't drink a whole liter of coke - I didn't go bungy jumping!

I needed to take Niki to the vets and I got an appt for 550 this evening. No sweat - I drove in to work today and if I left between 450 and 500 I should be able to get home - grab the cat - and drive the 1 mile to the vet. Ah - best laid plans of mice and men (where did that saying come from by the way?) The traffic was so backed up trying to get from Pike to I5 - usually a quick 5 - 10 minute trip took 1/2 an hour! I finally get to I5 and make my way to I90 - no sweat made great time. Then everything just stopped - I think everyone decided to leave Seattle at the same time and they all wanted to drive over the I90 bridge. Being late for appointments drives me crazy - being stuck in traffic drives me nuts - having both happen gets my adrenalin going! Ah - the aforementioned Adrenalin Rush!

Niki is a mess - she's falling apart - but seems to be a very happy cat - $160 later!!! She either has an immune deficiency or she's allergic to the bacteria that lives in a cats mouth. Good Grief!! A shot of cortisone and a shot to get her insides working again so she'll quit throwing up and we were on our way home. Really - I think I should just change my direct deposit at work to start getting deposited in to the Vets Account. I would just like to have all my pets healthy at the same time! Knock on wood - Buffy hasn't gotten sick.

I was wired though - the sun was shining in the bedroom so it was too hot in there to use the energy to fold and put away clothes. Muppet would have nothing to do with going for a walk and I didn't have the heart to lock her back up in the kitchen. So what to do - what to do. I decided to do one of my favorite things - no not that!! - I decided to bake something to bring to work tomorrow. Now - we have been having a lot of sweet treats lately so I didn't want to bake cookies - I didn't have the ability to just sit still and look through cookbooks - I needed to make something I know how to make.

I made Mini Quiches! Three kinds - ham/cheese, ham/cheese/green onion, and zucchini/green onion. They look great! I figure I can nuke them when people get to work tomorrow. I hope they like them - I had fun making them! I think I'll stop and get some fruit on my way in tomorrow to go with them. Kinda like a Friday Brunch at work.

It is almost 1100 and I am finally starting to unwind. I'm heading to bed!

Dog Blog

Hello everyone - this is Muppet. My Mom is a little tired tonight so while she is resting I'm going to write a bit. Life around here has been interesting.

You might think a dogs life is easy - eating, sleeping, going outside for a quick break - but there's a lot more that I do. When my Mom and I go outside I have to lead her around quickly to make sure I show her the exact spot I want to be at. Sometimes I have to pace back and forth 3 or 4 times sniffing to make sure I get the spot just right. I like to quickly switch directions and see if she can keep up with me!

Last night I had to protect her. L, my sissy, was very mad at Mom - I'm not sure what she was yelling about but she scared my Mom so I laid in Mom's lap and looked at L to let her know that I was keeping my Mom safe. After L left the house Mom took me outside, but I didn't make her stay out for very long and when we went to bed I kissed her toes and snuggled up to her to let her know I was watching out for her.

Tonight is very quiet - L isn't home and Mom is resting. One of the cats that lives in the house with us isn't feeling well - she had accidents in L's bathroom and then she threw up on the rug after Mom got home. Mom fixed up some of the Niki's meds with some egg - Niki didn't want to eat it - I snuck into the kitchen and started eating eat! Mom caught me though - I gave her that "who me" look but I had egg on my face - literally! Ooops - darn long hair around my mouth!

Last Saturday Mom made me go to the groomers - she said I needed a hair cut. I thought I looked fine - see - the wind blowing through my hair - I was happenin! A Hot Pup! She told the groomer to give me a short cut for the summer. OMG! I look bald - all my beautiful locks sheared right off my body. Mom says I look like a puppy again and it took years off me. I don't know - I feel a bit naked and when the wind blows I have no hair so instead of lookin cute I'm just cold! What do you think?

Mom is watching that dancing show right now - SYTYCD. She seems to like all of the dancers that are left except for some guy who smiles too big named Thayne and his partner Comfort. I dance for Mom every night when she comes home from work - I think she likes my moves the best!

Well - I'm going to try and corral Mom into the bedroom so we can get some sleep. She looks really tired - I think the long hours last week at work and the drama with L last night have taken their toll on her.

Am I a Marshmallow

Here's the deal. L got paid yesterday - rent was due - she didn't pay me. She said she would write me a check but she didn't - I started to suspect that she had no intention of paying me like what happened the last time so I checked with the bank to see if she could cover a check for $284 - Nope. The agreement was that she pays rent or she moves out. Ah Crap - Now What! I took a poll at work and it ranged from Kick Her Out to Not Sure. No one said to keep her and let it slide. My counselor said to kick her out - my Mom said to give her 30 days notice.

When L got home things did not go well - the way she argues is to draw your focus away from the topic and to attack, putting you on the defensive - Yup - I became the Bitch with a stick up my ass again. During the argument she kicked the couch - screamed at the top of her lungs for me to shut up - and she was trying really hard not to do something (she had her arm raised as if to hit me) and if I didn't shut up she wasn't going to be able to. Very scary living with this person. I told her she had 3-days to get the money or move out - she said it was unfair of me to ask for something I knew she couldn't get - don't even try to understand L Logic! She said I wanted her to live on the streets, that I don't care about her, and again I am a bitch. She has nowhere to go - no one to stay with - and on and on and on.

So now I need to come up with a plan. If I decide to give her until Aug 5th - at which time she will owe 2 months rent and 2 months phone - does that make me a marshmallow? If I make her move out right now does that make me an uncaring, unfeeling, bitch? Is there a happy medium here? Is there any way for me to come out of this without feeling like I gave in yet again?

Here is what I'm thinking - Give her a 20 Day Eviction Notice - this gives her until 8/5 which is her next pay day. At that time she needs to pay July and Aug rent and phone. If she doesn't have the money on that day then she will need to move out. During the 3 weeks she also needs to look for another job that will pay her enough that she can live on - and if College (Renton VoTech) is what she wants to do then she needs to have taken the necessary steps to register for classes. Basically - she needs to start making plans for her life.

Part of me thinks I am just giving her 3 weeks more of a free ride and the other part thinks I am giving her a specific deadline with specific items that need to be done - everything is spelled out.

Any suggestions?

Updates

Here are some updates to issues:

1. I got an email from WA State DCS letting me know about a check that is being sent to me. It's the IRS money - but it's not the full amount as indicated by the email from Fred - it is just 1/2 of it $750. I guess this means the IRS decided to split the refund amount. This doesn't surprise me as the 2007 tax refund was only 1/2 of what Alan said it was going to be so they must have gotten the other 1/2. So - the email from Fred was unnecessary - never needed to be sent. Never needed to get involved in an issue that was none of his business.

2. Here are some before and after pictures of L's bedroom and bathroom. I did a pretty darn good job of cleaning!

3. Vegas in 89 days!!

Quarter End is almost over. I got in at 715 this morning and left for home at 645 - almost a 12 hour day. L was gone when I got home but I did talk to her on the phone - using my blue tooth now that it is illegal to use your cell phone in the car without a hands free device. She got paid today and said she will give me her rent check when she gets home tonight. I'll let you know if that happens. I need to collect it ASAP before she is overdrawn on her account again.

Have a good week!

She's Baaaaack!

Vacation is over - L is back - and it didn't take very long for her to start back in right where she left off. She has no gas in her car - only has $10 - wants to drive to visit her friend Mikey. Not sure where Mikey lives but she was looking up addresses on Google Map and she said $10 worth of gas wouldn't get her there. So you know what happened next - she wanted to borrow more money from me - I said No that I didn't have any money - she said "Then let me have your car" - I said No - she said why - I said you don't have a license - she said it wasn't a problem before - I said it is now - and she then wanted to know who put the stick up my ass. Oh yeah - that's a good way to try to get me to change my mind!! She then says either give me money or give me your keys - those our your only 2 options. Uhh - I don't think so. I said - It's not my fault you have no gas in your car - you have no money. She then says Jenny owes her $20 bucks and can she just use my car to go to her house. No, she can walk. Why? - yup I think we already went through all this and it ended again with her wanting to know why I have a stick up my ass. I am so glad she's home!! So - not sure what her plans are but she's putting stuff in her bag and seems to be heading out. I guess now I will pick up all the crap she left strewn from the front door to her room and shove it all in her room. I have a clean house and it will be staying that way.

Oh - one of her things about borrowing money was that she gets her pay check tomorrow. I said I ahve no money to loan her but after my tenant pays me tomorrow I will! She was not happy and siad why would i bring that up when she is in the middle of saying she has no money. Hmmm.

Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July!!

I slept in this morning - wonderful!! I leisurely got ready to go to La Conner - packed up my stuff and Muppet's. The drive up to La Conner wasn't bad - there wasn't as much traffic as I thought there would be so the drive went pretty quick - I listened to the Mariner's play and win a baseball game on the radio.

We sat outside and had chips. Then we had barbecued steak for dinner - really good. Dad really knows how to barbecue - it's always good when he cooks. Although - I wonder if the chicken in Chelan is ready yet!!! (little inside joke from family vacations!)

We just got done watching a DVD - Vantage Point. It was pretty good. Mom fell asleep during it though so we will need to wake her up to watch the fireworks on TV at 10. I can hear fireworks going off in La Conner right now. For those of you that don't know - La Conner is right next to an Indian Reservation so they have a lot of cool fireworks.

I chatted online last night with L. She is having a good time. Today they were going to spend the day at the beach boogie boarding in the Atlantic Ocean. Sounds like a good time.

Tomorrow I will stop at the Berry Barn on my way home to get fresh strawberries and raspberries. Muppet has a grooming appointment at 130 tomorrow afternoon so we will leave La Conner probably at 1100.

Hope everyone had a safe 4th of July!

The Week Has Ended

I made it to the end of the week. All that getting in early and staying late paid off - I don't have t0 go to work tomorrow!! Yay - I actually get a 3 day weekend! It was a long week but well worth it.

The plan for tomorrow is to head up to La Conner to be with Mom and Dad for a barbecue. I don't think the firework noise will bother Muppet - she hardly budged last night during the thunder storm and it didn't bother her when the thunder started up again this morning. I hung out in the house this morning with her because the lightning was pretty close and I wasn't going to stand outside with her waiting for her to go potty! Once I was able to count up to nine one thousand between the flash and the noise I figured it was safe to go outside!

No word from L. She must be having a great time!

Happy 4th!

Early to Work . . . Not Early To Leave

Surprisingly I'm not tired or stressed - I got to work at 630 this morning and left at 630 this evening - I would have stayed later but I drove in today and the early Bird parking special only allows you to stay for 12 hours - early bird parking is $16 and if I had stayed it would have cost me $30. 12 hours is a long day though. I took a quick break to run to Subway - I was soooo craving a Tuna sandwich!! I will head in to work early again tomorrow. I had very intention of starting on my invoices first thing this morning but I kept getting interrupted with requests and other issues that needed my attention. I think I am still on track to meet my deadlines though - which is probably why I'm not stressed.

The gal that reports to me - Vicky - came in to work today so we'll see if she's decided she likes her job and is going to make some changes. A couple more errors on her part were brought to my attention today - they were issues that made the bank reconciliations out of balance and this is not the first time she has made this same error.

It is cooler today but it certainly was muggy when I got home - I also came home to some thunder and lightning. I thought maybe it was going to be a stormy night but it seems to have stopped. Muppet is glad it stopped! She was a little clingy when I got her out of the kitchen.

I'm watching So You Think You Can Dance - SYTYCD to those of us that are addicted! Just gonna watch that an head to bed - probably get to work at 630 again tomorrow.

Qtr End - Yay!

Gotta love Qtr End - I am so glad it only happens 4 times a year! Got in to work at 7 am today and left at 7 pm - 12 hours no lunch break - but I got all of my AdSpend downloads done on day 1!!!!! This means I shouldn't have to do extra weird calculations to get final numbers for the quarter!! So far I am on a good track to hit my deadlines so I shouldn't have to put in too much time on Friday 7/4 - yup, gotta work on the 4th - why is it that all the long weekends fall during either a Qtr end or a month end.

First thing this morning - well at 9am which is first thing for most of the people I work with - I got to have a performance meeting with the gal that reports to me. Fun Fun Fun! At least she didn't start crying, which is what usually happens whenever I have to meet with her. I made it very clear that her attitude does not fit in with the company's stated values - I told her that if she gets up in the morning and is happy to come to work and likes her job than great we want her here but if she gets up and hates to come in because she hates what she's doing then maybe it's time for her to make a change - either within the company or outside the company. Then game the discussion that during Qtr End there is no my job your job - we all work together to get financials closed on time - so it is expected that everyone will stay late to get things done - her main job is expense reports so I told her she needed to stay late to make sure she got everything in she had received - yeah that went in one ear and out the other because as soon as that clock hit 5 she was outta there. At least Matt is on my side and agrees with everything I said to her. We'll see how tomorrow goes.

No word from L today so things must be going better back in North Carolina. When I spoke with her yesterday I told her not to let Randi ruin her vacation and she said she wouldn't. Hopefully no word means everything is going well.

I am going to head to bed here soon - I want to get to work early again tomorrow to make sure I stay on track with my deadlines.
