Happy Halloween

I ended up not dressing up this year for Halloween. This is the first time in awhile but I just couldn't think of a good costume. Kim looked great - she came as a Queen Bee! She had a beehive hairdoo with little bees stuck all over it - black wings with gold glitter - these hilariously huge fake gold eyelashes. It was so creative - she definitely should win one of the prizes. When I got home form work I dressed Muppet up in her bug costume and took her to our pet store to go trick or treating! She was so good and she looked so cute. Jane - pet store owner - took Muppets picture and gave her some treats. We tried giving her some dog cookies but she didn't like those - then we tried a beef stick and Muppet loved that. Jane gave us a couple to take home.

As usual I have gotten no trick or treaters at my house. No one wants to climb up 3 flights of stairs to knock on a door for candy. I still bought candy though just in case - I have learned though to get the kind that I really like because I will probably end up eating it - or bringing it in to work.

Well - I am going to head to bed so I can get an early start on chores tomorrow morning. I am determined to get L's room looking more like an office/craft room than a white trash drug den. I may have to take a trip to Target to get some Rubbermaid bins and laundry baskets.

Don't forget to turn your clocks back an hour Sunday at 2 am.

180

L came by tonight to get some more stuff - bathroom things and items she could wear for Halloween tomorrow - she is going as a kid from the 80's! She found most of the stuff she was looking for - I provided her with the flashdance sweatshirt and a pair of lace gloves with the fingers cut off - don't even ask why I still have those things! We talked and were nice to each other while she was here. The only time when there was a possibility for an argument was around 800 when I asked her if she was just about ready to go - she turned around with that look and that tone and asked if I was rushing her to get out - I said No - I was just getting tired and wanted to head to bed soon. She smiled and said no problem she was just about done. See - possibility for an argument but it was nicely defused!

I helped her carry stuff down to her car - we hugged good-bye - I told her to have a fun Halloween and a good weekend - we both said I Love You. I started walking back towards the condo and she said - Hey Mom - I think you were right about us not living together anymore - we are definitely nicer to each other. I guess 18 years of being together all the time is enough. WOW - either she is playing me again or else the light is starting to turn on. I am betting on the latter. It was a really nice evening with her. Who would have thought that in a week her attitude would start changing, I thought for sure it would take longer. I like the validation.

Halloween Is Coming!

Halloween is this Friday - I have not come up with anything for myself this year so I will probably not dress up. Last year I was a Cougar Tailgate Party - I'm thinking not such a good idea this year. I could come as a Cougar Football Player - all beaten up - arm in a sling - tears down my cheeks. Hmmm - I may have to think about that one. April would like for me to do something WSU so that I will bring in Cougar Gold cheese like I did last year. I told her if I don't do it for Halloween I will definitely bring some in for the Friday before Apple Cup.

I did find a costume Muppet!! Last year she was a little witch and this year she is a Ladybug! She looks so cute! She is going to go trick or treating at the pet store here on the plateau - the lady we like who works there is going to be working on Friday so I told her we would drop on by. I tried to get Matt to let me bring her to work on Friday - I figured I could dress as a flower and she would be my little bug - that was a no go. Oh well.

I remember wearing my ballet recital sequined tutu and having a crown and wand made from cardboard and tin foil - I was a Princess! When L was growing up I made some of her costumes. I made her a Snow White dress that she wore for 2 years and one year I made her a Xena The Warrior Princess outfit. She was so darn cute both times. What was your favorite costume? Post a comment and let me know!

Now For Something On The Lighter Side

Let's take a break from the L drama - she is staying with her grandparents for awhile so she is safe.

Usually when I have a craving for fast food I will get a Happy Meal at McDonalds - just enough fries and cheeseburger to hit the spot. The toys in the Happy Meal are fun too. It varies though - sometimes you get a really cool toy and other times you get a stupid toy. When I get a boy toy I give those to Jason to take home to his boys. Last month they started giving out miniature Madame Alexander Wizard of Oz Dolls - absolutely too cute! The first one I got was Dorothy and the next one was Glenda - I was hooked - I had to have the whole set. It took a bit of work but I did it. Aren't they cute!!!! From Left to Right starting with the front row:Lollipop Guild Munchkin, Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Wizard. Standing Back Row: Flower Munchkin, Lullaby Munchkin, Glinda, Wicked Witch of the West, Winged Monkie, Winkie Guard.

Today after work I needed to go to QFC to pick up a few things. When I walked in the store I headed to the produce department. And what to my wondering eyes should appear - nope not a sleigh with 8 tiny reindeer - boxes of Satsuma oranges!!!!! (doesn't rhyme) I love these oranges - they are so easy to peel and so good to eat. I have to be careful though because once I start eating them I just can't stop.

I am heading to bed to curl up under my blanket and to watch House and Fringe - best shows ever!!

Quick Update

Quick update on the L drama - I'm tired and am going to bed early tonight. Why am I tired - well it might be the fact that L called last night at 1130 and kept calling for 1/2 an hour. She wanted to come stay here - said she had no where to go - I said No - she then tried to bargain her way in to the house - I said No - she got angry so I said good-bye. She then called again - this time she tried the tears and saying how she was scared and didn't want me to hang up. I ended that call and then she just kept calling - the phone kept ringing until midnight and then she finally gave up.

She called me at 900 this morning and acted like nothing had happened - she just wanted to know if she could come by after work to pick up some stuff. She got here about 630 - gathered a few things together - called one of her friends - hung out for a bit - I had to finally tell her that it was time for her get going. I helped her carry stuff to her car - and then came the tears again. How she feels ignored by me - she feels I don't love her - I make her feel like shit every time she stops by - and on and on and on................

She tried to push my buttons but I didn't let her this time. She has a place to stay now while she works on getting her own place. Hopefully this means there won't be any late night calls and I can actually get a full nights sleep.

48 Hour Update

I'm blogging early for a Sunday! Today has been spent trying to dig my house out of the mess L left behind. I can't even describe the bathroom - there are no words for it - It was beyond disgusting and I haven't even been able to complete it yet. I went to her room to try and find out what was causing the horrible smell - I haven't found it yet but I am pretty sure it is coming from under the bed - I am still trying to dig my way over there.

I received 2 calls today. The first was from Kevin - on site manager - letting me know why he called last week. It was because L was trying to get in to my place. He said her and a friend asked him if they could borrow a ladder - he said no - they asked some other people and someone loaned her one - it is one of those small step ladders which I believe is still out on my balcony. He said she tried to get in through her bedroom window but wasn't able to - gee think it was because I locked her window! Same happened with the back sliding door. I told him that I have kicked her out and she is not allowed in to my unit and should not be hanging around the complex. He said if he sees her just hanging out he will have her escorted off the property.

The second call was from Alan - L's Dad - said he was just calling to check on how things were going with L. He wanted to know if there was anyway I would let her back in to the house just until she finds a place - uh no - so you don't care if she ends up in a ditch dead somewhere - I told him he sounds like L and I told him that just because she can't live here doesn't mean I don't care she knew the consequences and it was her choice- she understands that she made a mistake he then asked again if she could just stay with me - uh NO!!! - he asked what has happened to you do you just not care. I told him that if he wanted to pay for her to stay in a hotel or call his parents to see if he could talk them in to letting her stay with him that it was his prerogative. I am done being her safety net - she needs to figure this out and grow up. He then said I guess that's it and he hung up. Just love how he is trying to ride in and be the hero after not being there to deal with her for the last 17 years - I am not the witch in this story - I have put up with a lot of crap from her over the past 2 years and enough was enough. If he is so worried about her he can step up and figure out how he can fix things for her.

Do you think animals can tell when there is stress in the house? I think they can - poor little Muppet had a seizure this morning - the first one she's had since the middle of August when we were in Chelan.

I am going to go check on my dinner - I have made a beef stew using the organic vegetables I got in the Farm delivery this past week. I think I may do some baking too - my kitchen is so clean so there's lots of room in there!

24 Hours and Counting

It has been 24 hours since I last saw L. She called last night at 1130 and wanted me to let her in so she could charge her phone - uh NO! - she asked why and I said because I am going to bed and you don't live here anymore - she hung up on me. She also threw in - I haven't found a place to stay yet. Well she must have found somewhere because she updated her Facebook page at 1030 this morning - so not only did she find a place to stay but it has the internet!

I had trouble falling asleep last night - every sound I heard I thought it was L trying to break in - every time I hear footsteps on the stairs my heart goes in to my stomach and I feel like I am going to throw up. I spoke with my friend Laura this evening - her daughter has been out of the house for a year now - going from place to place - she says the stress and stomach aches will get better.

When I got up this morning I started cleaning my kitchen - I figure get it looking spotless before I drag out all the nastiness that is in L's room. After that I went to watch Lyd in a horse show - it took longer than I had thought to get there and the show went really fast so I didn't get there until her last entry. Sweet Cheeks was in a mood and didn't want to listen to Lyd. It was fun though and good to get out of the house. It was so beautiful outside too - sunny, blue sky, warm enough not to need a jacket and cold enough you can smell the crisp fall air.

Tomorrow will be more cleaning and lots of laundry. For now I am going to head to bed - read my People Magazine - and try not to let the bumps in the night get to me.

A Suspicion Confirmed

I am becoming the owner of that one unit in a Condo Complex that everyone talks about - first there were all the issues I have discussed in previous blogs - next there was the loud party while I was in Vegas - and now I have received yet another email from the Property Management Company regarding something that I had a suspicion about . . . . . . . Read This . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Diana,
Your daughter climbed up several balconies in order to enter your unit this morning. This is not acceptable and very dangerous. If she is supposed to have access to your unit please make sure she has a key.

Unfreakin Believable. Well - this explains why I thought the furniture on the deck looked like it had been moved around when I got home last night. I responded to the email - she is not to have access to my unit and if Kevin (on-site manager) or anyone else sees her doing that again they need to call the police. I will be talking to my neighbors this weekend to let them know that if they see her hanging around and looking suspicious they should call security or the police.

She stopped by tonight to get a pair of pants - supposedly - that she needed. After she left I went in to her room and found that the stupid window was open again. It was after that when I checked my emails and saw the one about her climbing balconies - guess we now know that my suspicions have been correct and she was going to climb back in through her window. I have double checked all the locks tonight and I am thinking that I will go to Home Depot this weekend to get the stoppers for sliding windows and doors so that people can't open them very far and won't be able to fit in through them. I think I may invest in a second lock for the front door just so I can feel more secure.

I am now totally freaked out about being in the house. I am worried that she is going to find a way to break in and either do something or steal something.

Great - I just love feeling insecure in my own house.

I'm Ready To Get Off This Ride

I'm not sure where to start - I guess I will start where I ended last night. The locks were changed by 930 last night. I went around the house and double checked to make sure all of the windows and the back door were locked - I gathered up my ID - money - new keys - computer - put them under my pillow. My pillow was on the couch as I decided to curl up out there to try and get some sleep - I was anticipating L to return to the house even though I had sent her a message not to return home. She showed up around 230 - knocking on the door and calling the home phone number - I let her in the house to get her work clothes. She informed me that I can't just kick her out because she pays rent so I have to give her 30 days notice - I reminded her that we didn't have written lease agreement so I didn't have to give her any notice - she tried to argue and I told her that if she wanted to play it as landlord and tenant then I would be calling the police to report that she had stolen money from me. She then tried to argue that she needed time to be able to get her "shit" together - my response was to tell her to pack up what she needed for the next few days and then we could make arrangement for her to come by on Sunday to pack up whatever else she needed. The conversation ended with me letting her sleep here last night. I moved my stuff in to my bedroom and stuffed everything under my pillow again.

This morning I went in to work late so I could be in the house the whole time until L left for work. I overheard her crying - well sobbing - on the phone talking to someone about how I was making her leave right now - not giving her any notice - and how it was so unfair. She then came to my room and handed me the phone - yup even at the age of 18 when she doesn't like something that I am doing "to" her she calls her Dad. He of course decided to be the concerned parent and wanted to know what was going on - I asked him if she had let him know during her sob story that she had stolen money from me the last 2 nights - oh gee she had left that part out. He said he figured there had to be more to the story and that's why he was talking to me - he was just trying to understand what was going on up here. I told him what had led up to the decision to her having to leave and I told him I couldn't trust her to be in the house anymore. He asked me if she had some place to go and I responded that it wasn't my problem and that if he wanted to come up here to get her be my guest. I then gave the phone back to L. She left for work and then I left for work. She called about 5 min later to say work was giving her the day off to try and pull herself together - was I still at home so she could come grab some stuff. I let her know I was on my way to work and she could come by when I got back home.

I spent the day at work worrying about what the confrontation was going to be like when she came by tonight. It ended up being anti-climactic. She came by with Megan - grabbed her suitcase - asked again if she could come by on Sunday - then she left. The only suspicious thing she did was to open her bedroom window a crack - her screen doesn't fit in the window very well so it would be very easy for her to climb on the railing and try to get in the house. So - after she left with Megan went back in to her room and closed and locked her window again. When I got home tonight I did notice that her screen was pulled away from the window - I believe that when I was at work she tried to break into the house by climbing in through her window only to discover that I had closed and locked it. Another suspicious thing was that on the caller id on the home phone I showed a call from the property manager around 1130 but no message was left. I wonder if he was calling to see if I was home - maybe he saw L trying to get in. I called his number this evening and left a message to see if everything was all right seeing as he hadn't left a message and to also inform him that L no longer lived here so not to help her to get in the house. I will definitely be making a sweep of the doors and windows again to make sure everything is locked up tight when I head off to work in the morning.

Time to try and get some sleep.

How Did I Get Here

It is 830 on Wednesday night and how am I spending my evening - waiting for the locksmith to come and change the locks on the front door.

This morning I discovered some To Do lists created by L. First one was things she needed to do on her lunch break - straighten hair, get clothes ready for Seattle, smoke some weed and pack it for Seattle. A sure sign you're doing too many drugs is when you have to write a note to remind yourself to do drugs. Second list was things to do to get ready for Seattle - again with the hair and make-up and then Jack Money - which was underlined - and a note at the bottom that read If taking money doesn't work then ask for some. After seeing this note I went and checked my wallet - gee I was short $40 - I wonder where it went. It was then that I realized that when she was hanging around the house last night before she headed out to Seattle she was just waiting for an opportunity to "jack" my money. That opportunity came up when I took Muppet outside to go to the bathroom. She left the house shortly after I went outside - walking quickly to her car and calling out I Love You Mom!

Tonight I told her that she definitely needed to be out by next Friday and I wasn't changing my mind - I let her know I knew about the money she stole and that she was still doing drugs in the house. She said nothing - she then went back to her room - went in to my bathroom to get toilet paper - and then she left to head to Seattle. As she was leaving she wanted to know if we could talk calmly tomorrow night. After she left I got a weird feeling - went to check on my purse that I had put in my bedroom - yup - she had stolen $80!!!

I sent her a text letting her know that she was out of the house as of now - which is why I am waiting for the locksmith to show up and re-key my front door.

Either she will just stay in Seattle tonight or else she is going to show up early morning trying to get in the house. I will keep you posted.

One Thing Or Another

Last week I received an email from the homeowners association - this is never good - previous letters have been in regards to poor little Muppet not being on a leash - accusations of not picking up after Muppet - L smoking in areas she is not supposed to. I figured it was probably something like that again - the neighbors on the first floor have a tendency to complain about everything. Well - it wasn't about any of those. Any guesses on what it was about? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . If you're thinking it has something to do with Muppet you are on the wrong track - try again. . . . . . . . . . . yup it has something to do with L - what do you think it could be. . . . . . . . . . . . .let me give you a hint - it was concerning something that happened on 10/6 . . . . . . . . . . . . . .hey wait a minute - wasn't that when I was in Vegas! Bingo!!!!

Here's the letter:

Dear Ms. Boyd,
The Copeland Group received a complaint from a Sundance Homeowner regarding a loud party in your unit last Monday night, Oct. 6th. It was going on until approximately 3 am. There was very loud talking, almost yelling and stomping around in the unit. It would die down for a while and then start back up.
Please remember that there are quiet hours at Sundance and the neighbors have a right to quiet enjoyment during those hours. I am attaching a copy of the rules and regulation for your use. All residents and their guests must follow the rules.

Now when I presented this information to L do you think she came clean and said - yeah I had people over and it got a little loud - oh no L does not admit to anything even when presented with circumstantial evidence. I of course wasn't about to leave it at that! I finally ran in to my neighbors who live directly beneath me and asked them about it - they said there was definitely a party going on and they had a feeling I wasn't home because they noticed my car wasn't in my spot. They also said that they know some of the neighbors on the first floor heard what was going on too. I wish one of them would have called the cops.

Now she's not only making me miserable she's succeeded in pissing off my neighbors - Great.

Longest Monday

Man - I thought this day would never end - it was the longest Monday. Why is that? It's not like there are more hours in the day - 24 hours same as last week - same as next week - it felt longer today. I woke up with plenty of time but I was moving so slowly this morning - I was late for the bus - and when I got to the park and ride I realized that my coat was not in the car like I thought it was - and it was starting to rain. Maybe when a Monday starts off like that it just makes it a longer day. Better not mean this week is going to have more hours :P

Quiet when I got home - L must have come home from work and then headed right out to Brian's place. I knew she had been here because the jam was not in the refrigerator - it was on the counter with the lid off and the knife laying next to it - the peanut butter jar was there too with the lid off - and of course there were glops of jam on the counter too. When L left Friday night she had said that when she got home on Sunday - no matter what time - she was going to get all the dishes out of her room and clean them - gave me her word. Her word is worth about as much as WAMU stock these days.

If you ever find yourself in the need of a good laugh on a Monday night you need to watch The Big Bang Theory on CBS - this 1/2 hour comedy is really funny - the character Sheldon just cracks me up. Who would have thought that a show about science nerds would be funny!!

Monday is just about over so I am heading to bed!

Quiet Weekend

This was a nice quiet weekend. It was great.

Saturday - Couch Potato Day! I watched the Cougs get creamed at football - 69 to 0!!!!! This was the first time in 284 games that they didn't score!! The end of a great record. Do you think they have hit rock bottom yet?!? After the "game" I caught up on some of the shows I had saved on DVR.

Sunday - Today I went to one of my favorite places - Barnes and Noble! I hadn't used the gift cards I got for my birthday yet. I love just wandering through the aisles and looking for that book that just jumps off the shelf at me. I found two books - The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks and A Lion Among Men - Book 3 in the Wicked Series. After getting books I went to Red Robin for lunch/dinner and I watched the end of the Jets - Raiders game. That was exciting!! Last stop before home was QFC to do a little grocery shopping. As I was loading the groceries in to the trunk I got a text message form Krystina letting me know that the Seahawks were playing true to form and were already losing. Once again this was not a weekend for football fans in the Seattle area. At half-time I gave up watching the game and gave Muppet a bath instead - she was a little ripe!

L came home at 900 - which is early for her. She was being nice - she is sick though - has a nasty cough and is losing her voice. I figure it must be from lack of sleep - smoking - and hard partying. She is in her room right now and i can hear her coughing.

I am going to go head to bed now - time for another work week to start.

Busy Friday

Friday was a good day! Work went well - I went out to lunch with people in my department. We went to Red Fin - known for their sushi - luckily they serve other items too. I had the Angus Beef Teriyaki - OMG! - so good and so tender! Indri had the Dragon Tail Sushi - she sat next to me - It was eel on top of rice rolls and the way it sat on the plate it looked just like a centipede. It was fun to go out with the group. Then - after work we all went to Mexico for Happy Hour - this is the same place we went to a few weeks back when I tried a Washington Apple shot for the first time. I didn't have one of those this time - I had plans with Lyd - I had two Coronas and then headed for the bus and home.

Lyd came over and we had a Chicken -n- Chiven Pizza from Flying Pie Pizza - it was really really good. We ate pizza and watched the movie August Rush - if you haven't seen this movie don't bother - it was the cheesiest move I have ever seen. It didn't flow together and the way it ended was just ridiculous. I'm glad I didn't waste any money seeing it in the theater.

No plans yet for today - I may go see a movie - the Cougars play at 12:15 but I'm not sure I want to sit through the pain of watching us "play" USC - we are 44 point underdogs! L is off in Seattle for the weekend - it is nice and quiet around the house so I may just hang out and enjoy that.

Speaking of L - any suggestions on how I bring the topic of her moving out up again - she is acting all sweet and nice like nothing has happened. I don't want to have another scene like on Tuesday but I don't want her to think I have changed my mind. So - any suggestions?!?

How Do You Relieve Stress

People have different ways of handling stress - shopping - eating - screaming - etc... When I am feeling lots of stress I Bake! Yesterday Divina gave me 4 over ripe bananas and tonight I turned them in to a nice loaf of banana bread. I usually make muffins but I barely had enough bananas for one loaf - I usually make a double recipe when I bake muffins. After the bread I still needed some baking therapy so I tried a new recipe - Cranberry Orange Muffins. I didn't have any fresh or frozen cranberries so I used some craisins I had in the cupboard - they smell good baking! I get stressed - I bake - my department benefits!

No real changes with L - she acts all sweet - hasn't mentioned one word about moving out or the fight - she even took out the recycling tonight. Not that she was all happy about it - I didn't ask her to do it she offered and then she acts all put upon like I'm making her do it. She has gotten in to my head and she is confusing the hell out of me. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Gotta go check the bread - brb -oh my goodness - the orange cranberry muffins taste wonderful! I used the organic oranges I got in my Full Circle Farms box last week. They were really juicy. I think I am going to have to make these again - the single recipe didn't make very many so I will definitely have to double it up next time.

Time to go to bed - watch a little CSI - and try to get some sleep. I get to hang out with Lyd after work tomorrow! I haven't seen her in a few weeks so that will be fun.

Tuesday Evening

Here's how it went down:

L - What do you want me to say. Leaving that note was just messed up. Who leaves something like that on a door.

Me - What did you think was going to happen when you broke the one rule that was left in this house.

L - It's not like I was thinking - oh let me break this rule - when I lit up. I just needed to relax after work.

Me - The consequence is that you need to be out of the house. I won't have you doing this in my house.

L - FINE I'LL JUST GO LIVE ON THE STREETS. YOU'RE MESSED UP - YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR OWN DAUGHTER. YOU'VE NEVER CARED ABOUT ME. YOU CARE MORE FOR THAT DOG THAN YOU DO ME.

***Slamming of fists into the laundry closet door ***

L - IF YOU WEREN'T MY MOM I WOULD KILL YOU RIGHT NOW.

I pulled out my phone to call the police because she threatened me. She started crying no no no. I told her to get a hold of herself. She flipped out again - I started dialing on the phone and she came over - grabbed my arm and ripped the cell phone out of my hand and wouldn't give it back.

She then started bargaining with how she would change - she didn't want to leave the house - she's not ready to move out. Couldn't I just give her another chance? What if she got everything cleaned up and showed over the next couple weeks that she wanted to stay here and follow the rules.

Me - I'm not making any agreements.

L - Then I'm not cleaning my shit up.

Me - Great - so you won't do anything around this house unless you're going to get something out of it. What is it that I get out of this arrangement.

L - LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE GETTING EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT - YOU HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET ME OUT OF THIS HOUSE. WHAT KIND OF MOM KICKS THEIR OWN CHILD OUT OF THE HOUSE. YOUR MOM WOULD NEVER HAVE DONE THIS.

Me - If I had been doing drugs in Nana's House I would have been kicked out and not even given three weeks to find another place.

At this point I told her that she needed to just leave and go to her friends house because this conversation was going nowhere. I also told her that if/when she smoked in her room again I wouldn't be knocking on her door I would just call the police to come and get her.

L - What is it with you and calling the cops. I told you I would never hit you. What would the cops do anyway - they can't do anything because I didn't touch you.

Me - I told her that they would come because I felt threatened.

This was pretty much the end of the conversation - she left to go to her friends house. There was a lot said but I pretty much hit the highlights above.

I feel like I am in an abusive relationship that I am never going to get out of. She is never going to leave.

Other Shoe Dropping in 3...2...1...

Well Readers - we all knew this was coming - it had been quiet for way too long - too many weeks had gone by without any disagreements. Tonight after L had gotten home - we talked briefly - she went in to her room to get ready to head to Seattle with Kelley - she came back out to show me what she planned on wearing - went back in to her room. I was sitting on the couch - watching last weeks recorded Heroes so I could be caught up before tonight's show started - when the oh so tell tell odor started wafting down the hall - I went down the hall and it got suddenly stronger outside the locked bedroom door - L only locks her door when she is doing something she knows she shouldn't be doing - I banged on the door and said - L you are not to be doing drugs in the house. I reached in to my pocket for my trusty bus pass - used it to unlock her door - quickly opened the door. There she sat on her bed trying to look oh so nonchalant and trying to tell me that she hadn't been smoking weed. She thinks I am so naive - I know what the nasty stuff smells like. I told her that she needed to just leave now to go to Kelley's.

I am now going to go write a note to leave on her door - she has paid October Rent so she can stay until the end of the month - then she needs to leave. I have put up with a lot of crap from her this past year - the last house rule standing is the one about No Drugs In The House - I am not willing to budge on this one.

The next few weeks are going to be rather interesting - I am expecting tears - yelling - dealing - promises. You will all get a front row seat!

Vegas - Food

A week ago I was in nice sunny Vegas and now I am sitting in my living room in sweats with the fireplace on. Spent most of the weekend watching football - course none of my teams won - WSU lost - Seahawks Lost - Redskins Lost - Cowboys lost. Dang - I so need to find new teams to root for.

Vegas - Food!!

Sunday night we met up with the rest of Colleen and Lindsay's running group at Tao inside the Venetian - if you follow Hollywood Gossip then you know that this is one of the night clubs that celebrities go to - nobody was there when we were though as it was still set up as the restaurant. So - we all get there and the hostess comes to take us to our table - up 2 flights of stairs! All but Tony and I had run in the marathon the day before - when they saw the hostess go up the stairs they were all like - you've got to be kidding me! They moved very slowly. The food at Tao was very good - Beigel and JJ ordered for everyone and we aye family style so it made it easier. The best was Encrusted Chilean Sea Bass - those of you that know me know that I am not a fan of seafood - this was really really good. We had it on sticks as a appetizer and then bigger pieces for the meal. I tried a Tao Tini - the first half was good but I'm not a big fan of rum - Colleen was drinking the same thing so when she was talking to John I just added the rest of my drink to hers - she didn't notice!

We had breakfast one morning at the Coffee Shop at Treasure Island. As we were waiting to be seated Colleen picked up a USA Today - the host asked if she was paying for that now or at the table - table. We got shown to our seats and that gal asked if she had already paid for her paper or should it be added to the breakfast bill - uh the bill. When the waitress came to take our order - that's right - she asked if Colleen had already paid for the paper. You must be thinking that this paper is very expensive in Vegas - nope - they were very worried that Colleen wasn't going to give them their .75 cents - that's right 75 whole cents!

The one place Lindsay wanted to eat at was Margaritaville - a restaurant all about Jimmy Buffet. Both Colleen and Lindsay had a Margarita in a collectors glass - Tony and I stuck with beer. We ordered Nachos to start and then our food. I had a Cheeseburger In Paradise - told ya it was all about Jimmy Buffet! Colleen ordered a Cheeseburger In Paradise without the cheese - our waiter told her that in Vegas they call that a hamburger! She replied with the fact that they don't have a hamburger on the menu - because there was no Hamburger In Paradise. After walking all day the food hit the spot!!

Monday and Tuesday night dessert was at the Bellagio - they have a pastry chef there that makes the most incredible concoctions- I enjoyed - Imperial - creme brulee covered in chocolate, Raspberry Cheesecake wrapped in a thin sheet of white chocolate, and Key Lime Pie that had real chunks of key lime.

Most of the other meals were just fast food stops on our walks and of course Starbucks every morning!

Hotels!

We stayed in two different hotels in Vegas - Treasure Island and then The Bellagio. Colleen and Lindsay said with each move we were moving up - the hotel they stayed in for the marathon was the bottom of the barrel.

Treasure Island was nice- it is connected to the Fashion Mall which was nice - we were able to go over to the Mall and to a real Starbucks. There was a Starbucks in the hotel but they don't take gift cards and my drink wasn't the same. The room was nice and the bed was really comfortable - there was also a flat screen TV so watching the football games was nice. It is located at the far end of the strip so be prepared to walk quite a bit to see everything.

The Bellagio - what an elegant place to stay. Colleen and I got in line to check in - we ended up choosing the wrong line because the people in front of us were having issues - I don't think they were getting everything they wanted. as we were standing there wondering if we should move a Bellagio employee came up to us and apologized that we had been in line for so long - she had just been made aware that there was a problem - she took us out of line and moved us over to a special check in area. The rooms at the Bellagio are very elegant - marble shower - separate tub - comfortable beds with lots of pillows. They come in the evening and turn down your bed and leave chocolates!

We walked the strip and did go in to some of the other hotels. I liked Mandalay Bay - the wave pool there was used in some of the scenes shot for the TV Show Vegas. Ceasars Palace is nice inside - you can tell it's been there for quite a while as it has that old time elegance. I saw NY NY and MGM Grand form the outside and they look like they would be nice places to stay. We went in to the Luxor - I was looking for Criss Angel - and I wasn't that impressed with the hotel or the casino - definitely an example of a hotel that looks cool from the outside but not that impressive on the inside.

There is construction going on in between the Bellagio and NY NY - I can't remember what was there a few years ago but they are building a huge complex that will include hotels, condos, casinos, and shopping. During the construction the tram that ran from The Bellagio down to Mandalay Bay is not running so we did a lot of walking.

I woke up this morning to 32 degree weather - that's right - 32 Degrees. I guess we won't be easing in to Fall/Winter this year. I am bundled up in sweats right now contemplating whether I should crank the heat, turn on the fireplace, or get a blanket. What a shock to the system - less than a week ago I was sitting poolside with a strawberry daiquiri enjoying the 80 degree heat. I think I need to go back!

Tonight's topic - either food or shows!

People - Vegas

I thought about how I would write about my vacation in my blog - there are so many things - too many to write in just one posting. I am going to break it down in to categories!

Tonight's Topic - The People I Met and Watched In Vegas

When I got to the airport and my gate on Sunday there all these guys just laying around in chairs and on the floor - they were all in the same sweats and shirts so I figured they were a sports team. The shirts said DSC Football - they were on my flight down to Vegas and I sat next to two of them so I found out that DSC stands for Dixie State College and they were up here playing Central Washington University - DSC is located in St George UT where Colleen and Lindsay ran their marathon - it's a small world. The football players were very nice - one helped me get my carry on up in to the overhead and another got it down for me when we reached Vegas.

Sunday night we went to dinner with the group Colleen and Lindsay ran with - they are the only two girls in a group of 9. It was a great group and very diverse - they all had running in common. One thing I learned at dinner - when talking about a runners time you never ever round up!!! Lindsay's time was 3:20:03, she placed 6th in her age group, and is Boston Qualified. Colleen's time was 3:24:56, she placed 9th in her age group, and is Boston Qualified - I learned my lesson about rounding from her because I said her time was basically a 3:25!!! No No No - you never round up! Colleen is now getting ready for the NYC Marathon on Nov 2. This from a person who said after her first marathon that she was never going to do that again! Look for her and Lindsay in the crowd at the Today show on Nov 3rd!

People of Vegas - there are guys on the sidewalk that try to hand you cards as you walk by - they are advertising girls who are just waiting for you and will come to your room. These guys have a very interesting way of snapping the cards to draw your attention. A few years ago when I went to Vegas for the first time it seemed that most of the visitors were from around the US - this time there were more form other countries - I heard so many different languages and accents - Chinese, Japanese, Australian, Italian, Spanish, and I think Russian. Vegas seems to be quite the destination.

Tomorrows Topic - Hotels!!

**Note - next time I go to Vegas it needs to be after the Musielak girls have run a marathon because they walk slower so I can keep up with them - the first time they walked me to death and this time it was so much easier!!***

I've Returned

I have returned from the land of glitter! Las Vegas was a lot of fun. I need to unpack though and get my thoughts all sorted out before I blog about the trip. I will answer some of the more pressing questions though.

  1. I did not win it big so I will be heading to work.
  2. The house was in one piece when I got home.
  3. Muppet survived with L taking care of her.
So - I will get organized and let you know all about Vegas - well almost all - What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas!

From Q3 to Vegas!

Going to work early this week and staying late worked out - the big push helped me to meet my Q3 deadlines!! Now I can head to Vegas and not worry about work!! I am sooo excited!! Colleen and Lindsay are already down there - they ran in the St George Marathon today - Lindsay beat her Mom and qualified for the Boston Marathon.

Today I have been finishing up cleaning house - laundry and dishes are all done - I like to leave a clean house when I go one vacation so that when I get home I can relax. Of course - that all depends on whether L can keep from trashing the house while I'm gone. Now it's time to pack - my flight leaves at 600 tomorrow morning. It feels weird to pack for hot weather when it is so dang cold here right now - it's raining - cold - the wind is blowing and there are some strong gusts. I think I will set the alarm on my phone tonight as well as my clock - I would hate to sleep through my flight because the power went out. Gotta love Fall in the PNW!

I am not bringing my computer with me so my blog will be quiet for a few days - I'll blog all about my trip when I get back.

Vegas Baby!!

What Is That. . . . . . .

Those that know me real well should know the answer to this question - What is one of my biggest fears? What am I deathly afraid of? What do I make intriguing contraptions to get rid of? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

SPIDERS!!

Last night when I got home L was not here - no big deal I was home late and she was out with friends. I go to my room and put my stuff away, change in to comfy clothes - my sweats and Hasselbeck Jersey - and head beck to the kitchen to get Muppet. As I am walking down the hall I notice Buffy sniffing as something on the rug - I figured it was one of her many mice that are around the house - as I got closer I realized it wasn't a mouse - it was a Spider!!!!! Not just any spider but a really big Spider!! I stopped in my tracks and just stood there - no screaming just staring. I watched it for a sec - it wasn't moving - hmm maybe L killed it and just left it there because she didn't want to pick it up. I decided to move a little closer and take a better look. Now - I am wearing my contacts, I have been staring at a computer all day so my vision is a little blurry, and I am very tired. Is this real Spider? I certainly looks real enough but I am starting to wonder if it might be fake - but how do I check? If it is real and I touch it - ewwwww I get shivers up my back just thinking about it - it could crawl up my hand - it could bite me - it could feel just plain oogy! So - I come up with an idea - not necessarily a good one but an idea - my phone charger is plugged in to the wall right next to this spider - so I grab one end of the cord and kind of drop the other end next to the spider to see if it moves - nothing - I drop it right on it - again nothing. OK - so it is either dead - playing dead - or fake. I decide to do the daring thing and actually touch this thing. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

FAKE

OK - it looked really real so stop laughing!!

I picked up my phone and texted L - ha ha very funny! My phone rings and it is L - ha ha very funny what? - You didn't leave the fake spider on the rug as a joke - a bit o laughter and then a No! The spider is mine and I saw it on the floor when I left to go to friends but I didn't put it there to freak you out. I did think about it though! When she got home she asked where I had put it - Wouldn't You Like To Know!!

Side Note: One of the best contraptions I came up with to get spiders - I got a broom - put a red plastic cup on the end of the handle - used this to trap a spider on the ceiling over my bed and slid it across the ceiling and then down the wall - then I used a shoe to smash it when I got it to the ground. Some have asked why I didn't just knock it down off the ceiling - oh right - so it could run under my bed and then sneak up in the middle of the night to bite me!

Quarter 3

I got home after 800 last night and was just too dang tired to write. Yes - Quarter End has started again - I know - seems like we just had this. These are just coming around too fast - Christmas is less than 3 months away!

If you are a regular reader you know I have issues with the gal that reports to me - she's young, has no work ethic, and pretty much just doesn't give a damn. Well - last night at 530 she came to my desk to say she was going to go home - Day 1 of Quarter End - she never stays late and is always behind on her work. I told her that we have discussed this before and not staying late during close is not acceptable - she said that mornings are better for her and working weekends - I said - well, if mornings are better for you then you need to be coming in earlier than 800. I told her it was her decision but she knew where I stood. She stayed another 1/2 hour and then came back to my desk - crying of course - and said isn't working weekends the same as staying late because that would work better for her - I told her it depends on when the weekend falls during the close process and seeing as she needed to get her entries done by Friday working this coming weekend on close processes wasn't going to work. She was not a happy camper and just turned and left for the day. To my surprise - when I got in this morning at 700 she was at her desk working! Amazing! Of course, when I walked in - if looks could kill! She has this way of not turning her head to look at you just moving her eyes so she's giving you this sideways evil eye look.

Now - if you think I was being too hard on her let me tell you - Tuesday when I left work I noticed piles of checks and back-up at her desk - not matched up just piled together. I had talked to her back in August about the August checks not being filed so I figured these must be the checks she cut in September - they were both months - all piled up, not stapled together, in no order to assist finding anything. Now we are at a Quarter End trying to get everything entered by Friday ans she is 2 months behind on her filing and October checks being cut at the beginning of next week.

OK - enough venting! I have Quarter End work to do!
