Well - the bicycle topic certainly got some people talking - or should I say blogging!! That's the best reaction I've gotten from any of my posts!
Today I went on my regular Starbucks run around 900 with BJ - Nic joined us today. We witnessed what I think was the crankiest woman standing in line waiting for her caffeine fix. We got in line and there was a girl in front of us - three of her co-workers had already gotten their coffee and stopped to talk with her and wish her a Happy Birthday! A few seconds after they left a couple more co-workers and her boss came in and they went up to her and started talking and wishing her a happy birthday - the boss said he wanted to pay for her drink - everything was fine. It was at this moment in time that a lady standing behind us must have been getting a little irritated with the loud talking or something - someone in the birthday group said to the rest of the line "sorry we just wanted to wish her a happy birthday" the lady behind us piped up with "we've all been standing here - it's not like we have jobs we need to get back to" I thought for sure she must have just been cracking a joke - like you know take as long as you want so we don't have to go back to work. I turned around - she was dead serious! The well wishers said - we just wanted to wish her a happy birthday - we're not cutting in line. The cranky lady said - oh, you're not all ordering drinks - I thought you were all ordering. The look on her face was like she wanted to hit someone - she was definitely not having a good day. As we were all waiting at the other end to get are drinks the birthday crew was there also - the boss asked where the lady was - I said "oh, you mean the cranky one. I think she left" we talked about how we all thought she was joking until we looked at her. The boss said he was going to offer to buy her a coffee because it seemed like she really needed some caffeine!
That was pretty much all of the excitement today. Tomorrow is a company outing to a place called The Garage - it is an hip bowling place - we have a private room reserved and there will be food and drinks - company gives us 2 drink tickets - which means the company will pay for two of your drinks. There are a few of us in the finance department that either don't drink or only have one so the extra drink tickets become a hot commodity! People will start trying to get promises for extra tickets early in the day.
On a bit of a sad note - I meant to blog about this over the weekend - Professor Randy Pausch passed away at the age of 47. This is the professor who became well known after videos of his "Last Lecture" made their way to YouTube (over 5 million views) If you have never heard this lecture you need to. The full lecture is an hour - I am going to post it here for you. He was very inspiring - his Last Lecture was also put out in book form.
