My Opinion

Jon & Kate +8 - I have watched this show from the beginning. Absolutely think the kids are adorable! The twins remind me of my nieces! The six little ones are cute, funny, and each have their own personalities.
In the beginning they came across as a struggling family who wanted to try and have a normal life with their kids. Jon went to work, Kate was home with the kids. Kate was a frazzled mom who didn't have time to go and do anything for herself. There was one episode I remember where they got a babysitter so Jon could take Kate out shopping for clothes for herself - Jon had to pick them out for her because she knew nothing about style. She didn't have time to get her hair cut - she was so surprised and appreciative whenever anyone or a company gave them something - she really came across like she appreciated everything she got. Kate was always bossy and liked to have things the way she wanted them - would playfully hit Jon when he said or did something she didn't like - but you could always tell that they loved each other - they laughed and smiled.

Now to today - I watched the season premier last week - like millions of other people - wanting to see the train wreck that this family has become. Given my past I am sure most people would expect me to hate Jon and think that what he has done is horrible and think - oh poor Kate. Nope - I feel for Jon! Kate has changed from this loving stay at home mom who didn't know anything about style to this reality star diva who goes around in designer clothes - jet setting all over - with a body guard!

There were so many things that irritated me in the show last week - how Kate played the martyr - whining about having to take the kids to go shopping for the birthday party about herself - oh gee, she kinda forgot to mention that she had been out of town on a book tour and Jon had been with the kids by himself - give the guy a break, why would he want to go shopping with you - we have all seen how those trips go - Jon does something to make the kids laugh or wanders to where Kate doesn't want him and she starts yelling for him in the store and telling him how stupid he is. Hmm. . . . .wonder why he didn't want to go. On the interview parts not once did I hear her take any responsibility for what happened - it was all about how Jon had changed and how she was just trying to do what was right for the kids - that all she could say was that she was here and here for her kids. I don't think Jon has changed much - I think he has just gotten worn down from being berated all the time and having cameras in the house 24/7. I see Kate as having changed more than anyone - she is all about her celebrity and what she can get out of it.

Don't get me wrong - even though I feel for Jon and think he had lots of good reason for wanting to be away from all that - I don't think it's OK for anyone to have an affair - if you don't want to be in the marriage anymore - you get out and then start dating - not the other way around. I also think both parents were blinded by the fame and all the things they were getting for free - trips, tickets, houses, etc. . . . I just think that Jon has come to his senses and realized that this isn't what he wants anymore and that it's not good for his family. Kate can't see past her own ego! She needs to stop thinking about just herself and see what all of this is doing to the kids.

The saddest part - when little Alexis told Jon "Daddy, I don't want you to leave anymore"

The most uncomfortable part - Jon and Kate sitting on the couch together - yet not really.

Oh - and I need to say this - I absolutely hate Kate's hair!!!

That's just my opinion - what's yours?

Sunshine and a BBQ

Just got back from a BBQ with my 40 Something Group. It was a lot of fun. It was at a house in the Greenlake area in Seattle. I had not been in this area before - the houses were amazing - the house the BBQ was at had a great backyard/deck area. The hostess provided the grilled chicken and everyone else brought a dish to share - I made my Peanut Butter Brownies - which were a hit - they were all gone when I left.

Last weekend was Folklife in Seattle - Shayna (tonight's hostess) saw a Folk Rock singer performing there and really liked him. She asked him if he did BBQ's at homes - he said he could - he does an hour show - so they hired him for tonight's BBQ. His name is Scott Andrew - he was really good and entertaining. At the end of his show he had CD's for any of the guests that wanted one. I of course grabbed one - I like free things and he was a good entertainer.

Before the BBQ today I laid out on my deck and read my book - I was only on my stomach for an hour - but that was enough to completely fry my back and the back of my legs - no I didn't wear any sunscreen - it's really tough to put sunscreen on your back by yourself. A gal I met at the BBQ said she uses the spray sunscreen so she can reach her back - good Idea - I'll be looking for some of that.

A Mixed Bag of Thoughts

Something Odd:

A lady got on the bus this morning carrying a board - probably between 2 and 3 feet long, 1/2 an inch thick, and about 3 inches wide. Now - that could be considered weird on it's own but this wasn't just a plain board - oh no - there were 4 door knobs attached! I kept wondering what she could possibly be doing with that board - at one point she put it up on the seat next to her and tried turning each knob. And Oh - these weren't modern door knobs - they were vintage door knobs - 2 were glass and 2 were ornate antique looking ones. Again I ask - why would someone walk around with a board and 4 door knobs?

Something sweet.

Something profound - this was on my cousin Haripurkh's Facebook last night -

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work…significantly increasing my odds of succeeding…eventually.

Long Weekend

My long weekend was productive and relaxing. Saturday and Sunday I worked on cleaning out my closet and moving things in to the spare room. It is looking a little more organized - except for the fact that all of my deck furniture is in my dining room! The Homeowners Association is having all of the decks coated - They power washed everything last week and this week they will be doing my building - they don't let you know which day though - kinda like the cable company!

Yesterday I did some grocery shopping and relaxed on the deck - brought a chair out there and moved it back in last night.

I also became completely addicted to The Deadliest Catch over the weekend! The Discovery Channel was having a Memorial Weekend Marathon of the show. I tell ya - once you start watching it you just can't turn away! It is amazing what these crab fisherman go through - dangerous working conditions to make a lot of money in a short amount of time - I found myself hoping that the cameramen were getting paid just as well - A couple times it looked like one of them was going to get swept off the boat. My favorite Captain was only on for one season of King Crab Fishing - Blake Painter from the Maverick. There are a couple captains that I'm not sure I would want to work for - Captain Sig Hansen from the North Western and Captain Phil from the Cornelia Marie - they are very harsh and they make their crews work unbelievable hours. One of the episodes showed the crew on the North Western working 48 hours straight - no break - brings up the question of whether they get bathroom breaks or if they wear depends!

Well - 3 Days left this week and then another weekend!

Vacation

Yesterday was a vacation day for me so I did no work around the house and ran no errands! I took Muppet up to the Klahanie Center where I got some Starbucks - we then found a place in the sun to sit - I read and Muppet sniffed everything! When we got home Muppet crashed - I think all that sniffing wore her out. I went out on the deck and finished reading my book - 1 book down!

Today is a regular weekend day so I am doing my chores! The sun is shining - which is rare for a Memorial Weekend in Seattle - after I complete the kitchen and living room, I am going to take Muppet to a park where I can read and she can sniff to her hearts content.

Honey Do List

Went to Home Depot after work today. I have a couple plumbing projects I need to do in my bathroom. My toilet handle broke - I blame the cats because they chase each other into my bathroom and I can hear them jumping from the counter to the toilet into the bathtun and then back out. The other job is the sink in my bathroom - the lever that you pull up to plug the sink has been broken for a long time and needs to be fixed. I wasn't sure what I needed to do but while I was wandering up and down the aisles I found the sink fixing section and decided to give it a try! Next stop was the paint section. I haven't decided what color to paint the spare room but I can't take the neon green anymore - I picked up a really good primer that should cover the nasty green and help to clear up any remaining odors in the walls.

Tomorrow is my Friday!! Taking this Friday off so I can have a 4-Day Weekend! When I started seeing the weather forecast I thought I better take advantage - sunny all weekend! Anyone from Washington knows that a sunny Memorial Day Weekend is very rare! I remember a lot of rainy camping trips growing up! Tomorrow I am going to go in search of a long leash for Muppet - the plan is to plant myself in a chair with a good book - attach Muppet to the chair to follow the silly leash laws - and have that leash long enough that she can wander around and smell the bushes and grass!

No call from L today regarding the mail - must be because today was payday - any bets on whether she budgets this time to cover rent-phone-gas! She did call me though when she was driving to Sammamish to get her pay - there was slow moving traffic on 405 and she wanted to know if I knew why? Hmm . . . . . . I go from being the person who knows nothing to a person who should know why there is a random backup on 405 . . . . . cuz I certainly have nothing better to do at work than keep a constant eye on the traffic reports! She is a crazy one sometimes!

Ho Hum

I have been sitting here with this blank page in front of me for over an hour! My brain just can't come up with anything very interesting to write about tonight. Work was fine - no big L drama, just a few phone calls to find out when I'll be home so I can let her know if the card from her Dad has arrived yet - just a regular day.

Right now I am watching the season finale of NCIS - my absolute new favorite show! Dang it - that stupid Menopause Jack In The Box commercial just came on! Aaaaggggghhhh!!! Anyways - if you haven't had a chance to watch NCIS you can catch reruns on the USA Network during the week.

Muppet is doing pretty good. Poor girl gets cold at night since she had her hair cut on Sunday. She's not a sleep under the covers kind of dog but she woke me up this morning around 2 and was shivering. I pulled her under the covers with me and she zonked out - snoring rather loudly I might add!

See - just a boring old day!

Random Thoughts

I had a good weekend. Sunshine - Star Trek - Target - what more could a person want!

Star Trek was an amazing movie! JJ Abrams did a really good job with it. I think it will create new Trekkies and also satisfy those of us who grew up watching the original show. I can hardly wait for the next one!

Sunshine - do I need to say more! As a born and bred Washingtonian I have learned to rejoice in the occasional sunny days. These usually land on a weekday - so when we get a full weekend of sunshine it's time to stop everything and just enjoy the glorious feeling of the warmth on your face. Even my cats stopped running around the house and found their own patch of sun and laid down all day!

Of course - after a good weekend you just knew there would have to be something involving L! Nothing too terribly huge - just the expected call to the Bank of Mom wanting to make a small withdrawal! The call started out with nice conversation - then she asked if I was at home - I told her I was at the Park and Ride - she said she was still at the Mongolian Grill and wanted to know if she could come by to get $5 so she could get gas to get home and back to work tomorrow. I told her no. She said - didn't you just get paid - I said yes but that I had no cash to give her - she wanted to know what I did with all my money - I told her I had bills that needed to be paid - I need to make sure I have enough for gas and groceries - and that I have it budgeted so that I have enough to make the house payment on the 1st. She didn't really seem to grasp the concept - budgeting is such a foreign word to her. She did have her usual reaction though - telling me she has no one else to ask - she'll just have to sleep at Mongolian Grill tonight then so she can be at work tomorrow. I told her that's fine and I hung up. Haven't heard anything since. Oh - the sun has officially disappeared and the rain it is a coming down!

Aaagh - can I just say - the new Jack In The Box commercials are sooo annoying!! Between the Mini Sirloin Burgers song and the Fruit Smoothie one with the lady wandering through her garden with a stiff smile talking about being in Menopause and that the smoothie helps with her hot flashes so she doesn't go all - Street Rat Crazy! I mean come on - do we really need to be talking about menopause to sell a frosty drink. Who came up with that idea - and who on the Marketing Team agreed that it was a good idea! I know times are tough and businesses need to drum up business - but I think Jack In The Box has officially Jumped The Shark!

Sending Out An APB For The Missing Sense of Humor

The top news story tonight . . . . . a food fight at a HM Jackson High School in Mill Creek! I'm not kidding - with everything going on in the world the top story was a food fight. The way they were reporting on it -the way the school representative talked about it - you would have thought there had been a tragedy at the school. This wasn't a tragedy - it was kids being kids - and pretty hilarious!

It is almost time for school to be out for the summer - which means restless kids and time for the Seniors to pull a prank. From what I heard on the news - the students had been planning this for a couple weeks - the administration heard about it - sent a message that it had better not happen - they lined up around the cafeteria hoping that it would deter anyone from pulling the prank. Then it happened . . . . . . a senior boy stood up . . . . . and in the perfect imitation of the late great Jim Belushi yelled . . FOOD FIGHT! According to the Senior - who was interviewed on the news - everyone was quiet for a couple seconds and then the food started flying! When all was said and done - no one was hurt - the police had been called - the school might cancel Prom - 14 students were singled out and given emergency expulsions . . . . . that's right -Expulsions!! When did throwing food become an offense on the same level as bringing a weapon to school! I mean really! Whatever happened to the punishment fitting the crime - like - making the students clean up the cafeteria and maybe some detention that includes helping out the janitorial staff after school. And why cancel prom - yes a Senior boy started the fight by all grade levels were involved and the students expelled consists of Juniors and Seniors.

When did we lose our sense of humor?

When Is Reality Not Reality

Aaaaggghhh! This dreary weather is really starting to wear me down. I feel so sleepy all day long. It's dark - cloudy - rainy - cold . . . . . supposed to be Spring not late Fall!

I am watching the Finale of America's Next Top Model right now. **Spoiler Alert** If you don't want to know the outcome stop reading!

I really like one of the finalists and really don't like the other one. I like Alison! Not a fan of Teyona! Alison is white, blonde, with big, round, blue eyes. Teyona is black, tall, and reminds me of a lot of the other girls that have been on top model. I found it very interesting during the final critiques - when the models were standing before them and they reviewed each photo shoot and the final runway show they all leaned towards Alison. When the models left Tyra and Ms J started leaning more towards Teyona. Nigel and Paulina stuck with the opinions they had given already. It became blatantly clear that Tyra wanted Teyona to win when she asked Paulina what she thought - Paulina said she thought Alison had made the most progress, did the best on the runway, and had consistently good photos - Tyra then said - OK, enough about Alison, lets talk about Teyona. At that moment I realized that the winner was going to be Teyona because that's who Tyra wanted. It didn't matter that 2 of her other judges thought differently.

Americas Next Top Model is . . . . . . . Teyona. Rigged!!

If Ignored Does It Go Away

Have you ever had a problem/issue that when you ignored it - it went away or got better? Yeah - me neither. No matter how much you ignore it - it is still there - and still needs to be resolved. After dinner with L yesterday I got home and went through the mail - her T-mobile bill was there and I opened it so I could let her know what was owed. OMG!! Her current charges are $309!!! I sent her a text letting her know and advising her that she should contact T-Mobile and talk to them about her phone plan, the extra charges, and whether or not there is a better plan for her to be on. No response. This afternoon she updated her Facebook status while she was at work so I sent her another text - asking whether she had received the text last night and to let her know I had put her T-Mobile bill under the doormat. No response and when I got home tonight the bill was still under the mat - hmm no big surprise there. you see, if she just ignores it then she doesn't have to admit there is a problem - she won't get stressed out - and maybe, just maybe, it will miraculously disappear! Not gonna happen! She will get a call from customer service on 6/5 letting her know that they are going to shut off her service unless she pays her bill right then and there - which I am guessing is what happened back in March when she stole my credit card. So - think this problem will go away or just get worse as it sits there.

Oh - and her status on Facebook - "at work til 4...then poking smot........" - guess we know what happened to the birthday money her Auntie Colleen sent her! Makes you proud doesn't it.

May 10, 1990 10:15pm

This is the moment that my little baby let it be known that he/she was ready to come out into the world - my water broke! I remember that I was downstairs on the couch on our North Bend house and Alan was upstairs getting some sleep - I was watching Twin Peaks. I yelled upstairs for him to bring a towel because my water had just broken and it was time to go to the hospital - He came down with a hand towel - I sent him back up for a beach towel! I remember calling my Mom and trying to get a hold of Colleen - her phone lines weren't working. We got to the hospital - checked in - and got settled. It had already been decided it would be a C-Section - I felt 2 contractions and was very thankful for that decision! My bundle of joy arrived May 11, 1990 1:23am. Was it - Brian Alan Eugene Householder or was it Katerina Elizabeth Householder? It was - L R Householder! Last minute girls name change decision! Nana didn't like the name Katerina and was going to call her Katie - I wasn't a fan of Katie - so I came up with a different name! Probably a good thing because Katerina Elizabeth Householder is quite a mouthful and the signature would be hard to fit on a check! Not to mention the nickname Kat House!!

May 11, 2009 - My Baby turned 19 today. It was a real White Trash Birthday!! She came by after work and we went to dinner at Red Robin. We joked around that it was a White Trash Birthday because I filled her car with gas and bought her a pack of cigarettes! We had a good laugh! It was a nice dinner - no arguing and she kept her phone off during the meal. It was a nice celebration. Now she is off with her friends celebrating - probably don't want to know what that is going to entail!

Annoyance!!

time to catch up on a few things - I have been a very bad blogger this week! It was pretty boring most of the week and then the calls started coming. L has called me at least 3 times a day starting on Wednesday to see if she has gotten any birthday cards in the mail that might contain money. I think she must be hurting for cash seeing as she just got paid on Tuesday. I think she is barely making enough to cover rent which leaves her with nothing for other stuff. She called me yesterday morning at 930 - I was home with a major sinus headache - to see if I was going to check the mail at the regular time between 100 - 200. I said sure and that I would call her if there was anything in the mail. She called me again about 230 to see if she had gotten anything - answer was no. She then called me today around 130 to see if I had gotten the mail - not yet and I would let her know if she got anything. She called me again at 300 to see if I had checked yet and I got a little bit pissy on the phone - I find this calling me multiple times a day to check on the status of the mail extremely annoying!! She then proceeded to lecture me on phone etiquette and how there was no reason for me to be getting so annoyed with her. I hung up. I then went and checked the mail - nothing for her again today so I texted her that and she texted me back saying she wanted to talk to me and then called. I answered and she started lecturing me again. I let her get it out of her system - tried to talk with her about my feelings - she told me I needed to apologize to her and I told her I had no intention of apologizing for feeling the way I did - she started getting bitchy so I hung up. Gee - think I'll get a call tomorrow wishing me a Happy Mother's Day!

She's out of the house and yet still finds a way to annoy the hell out of me. I am going to go put my face on and take a trip to QFC for a bit of grocery shopping and maybe get some ice tea at Starbucks and hang outside reading a book.

Go Bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Month end made my brain tired yesterday so no blog! I am tired tonight too but I have many many bananas supplied by co-workers - I am turning them in to bread and muffins. I have already made 24 muffins and I'm currently baking 1 large loaf and 2 smaller ones. My home smells really good right now! I think the people at work really like my banana bread because they all brought me their bananas that had gotten really ripe - I ended up with 6 cups of mashed banana - my recipe only calls for 2 cups!

Today for month end I got to learn and help with some new stuff - reconciling specific accounts on the financial statement and explaining any variances. I enjoyed learning something new - all the numbers made my brain tired.

Muppet was very funny tonight. After I put the muffins in the oven I went to take her outside - the heavens had opened up and the rains were falling - basically it was pouring outside. I took her down the stairs - no leash - we got to the bottom of the stairs and I let her just run out to the grass - usually she will pee and then want to sniff around - not today, she did what she needed and then ran quickly back to the stairs! She didn't even wait for me to start going upstairs! She does not like to get wet.

Watching NCIS right now - love this show! Oh - Oh! Got too in to NCIS and forgot about the smaller loaves in the oven that didn't need to bake as long as the big one! Can you say crispy crust! The middle still tastes ok. Luckily the larger loaf and the muffins turned out good!

Time to clean up the dishes and head off to bed.

Life . . . . . . . Part II

Today was liberation day . . . . . L moved the rest of her stuff out of the house! Lyd came by with her big ass truck and L came by with her boyfriend Justin. L showed up saying she was sick and had been throwing up all morning. I asked her if it was something she ate, drank, or smoked. She had drank a lot last night and was hungover - she kept trying to deny it and said no - she had the stomach flu and that she doesn't get hungover. Whatever! I was glad Justin came with her - he carried all of the heavy items. He carried the trundle down all three flights of stairs! He helped get everything in to the truck and got it all tied down. I don't know what we would have done if he hadn't come along.

L's new place is on the third floor. When we got to the apartments 2 of her other guy friends were there to help load everything up. From the outside the complex looked pretty nice - Oh how looks can be deceiving. The inside of the apartment was so disgusting. The first thing you notice is the smell - it reeked!! Even Justin made a comment about how bad it smelled. I went in to what is now L's room and there were plates with food on them on the floor. I asked her what smelled so bad and she looked at me like - What Smell?!? - She then said it was probably old food. Just imagine a whole apartment that looks and smells like how L left her room here at home.

Now - as excited as I am to have an empty house and to get on with my life there is a small part in the back of my mind that is scared for L and the decisions that she made. This apartment is not where I envisioned my 19 year-old daughter to live - when your child is growing up, you have hopes and dreams about how their life will be. I tried everything I could think of to keep her on the right track and then to help her when she faltered. I have put in so much effort to help her out - she now needs to live with the consequences of the choices she makes - one of which is living in a nasty apartment - although, the smell and dirt didn't seem to bother her.

Good Luck L - Part II of my life begins today.
