My Opinion

Jon & Kate +8 - I have watched this show from the beginning. Absolutely think the kids are adorable! The twins remind me of my nieces! The six little ones are cute, funny, and each have their own personalities.
In the beginning they came across as a struggling family who wanted to try and have a normal life with their kids. Jon went to work, Kate was home with the kids. Kate was a frazzled mom who didn't have time to go and do anything for herself. There was one episode I remember where they got a babysitter so Jon could take Kate out shopping for clothes for herself - Jon had to pick them out for her because she knew nothing about style. She didn't have time to get her hair cut - she was so surprised and appreciative whenever anyone or a company gave them something - she really came across like she appreciated everything she got. Kate was always bossy and liked to have things the way she wanted them - would playfully hit Jon when he said or did something she didn't like - but you could always tell that they loved each other - they laughed and smiled.

Now to today - I watched the season premier last week - like millions of other people - wanting to see the train wreck that this family has become. Given my past I am sure most people would expect me to hate Jon and think that what he has done is horrible and think - oh poor Kate. Nope - I feel for Jon! Kate has changed from this loving stay at home mom who didn't know anything about style to this reality star diva who goes around in designer clothes - jet setting all over - with a body guard!

There were so many things that irritated me in the show last week - how Kate played the martyr - whining about having to take the kids to go shopping for the birthday party about herself - oh gee, she kinda forgot to mention that she had been out of town on a book tour and Jon had been with the kids by himself - give the guy a break, why would he want to go shopping with you - we have all seen how those trips go - Jon does something to make the kids laugh or wanders to where Kate doesn't want him and she starts yelling for him in the store and telling him how stupid he is. Hmm. . . . .wonder why he didn't want to go. On the interview parts not once did I hear her take any responsibility for what happened - it was all about how Jon had changed and how she was just trying to do what was right for the kids - that all she could say was that she was here and here for her kids. I don't think Jon has changed much - I think he has just gotten worn down from being berated all the time and having cameras in the house 24/7. I see Kate as having changed more than anyone - she is all about her celebrity and what she can get out of it.

Don't get me wrong - even though I feel for Jon and think he had lots of good reason for wanting to be away from all that - I don't think it's OK for anyone to have an affair - if you don't want to be in the marriage anymore - you get out and then start dating - not the other way around. I also think both parents were blinded by the fame and all the things they were getting for free - trips, tickets, houses, etc. . . . I just think that Jon has come to his senses and realized that this isn't what he wants anymore and that it's not good for his family. Kate can't see past her own ego! She needs to stop thinking about just herself and see what all of this is doing to the kids.

The saddest part - when little Alexis told Jon "Daddy, I don't want you to leave anymore"

The most uncomfortable part - Jon and Kate sitting on the couch together - yet not really.

Oh - and I need to say this - I absolutely hate Kate's hair!!!

That's just my opinion - what's yours?

Sunshine and a BBQ

Just got back from a BBQ with my 40 Something Group. It was a lot of fun. It was at a house in the Greenlake area in Seattle. I had not been in this area before - the houses were amazing - the house the BBQ was at had a great backyard/deck area. The hostess provided the grilled chicken and everyone else brought a dish to share - I made my Peanut Butter Brownies - which were a hit - they were all gone when I left.

Last weekend was Folklife in Seattle - Shayna (tonight's hostess) saw a Folk Rock singer performing there and really liked him. She asked him if he did BBQ's at homes - he said he could - he does an hour show - so they hired him for tonight's BBQ. His name is Scott Andrew - he was really good and entertaining. At the end of his show he had CD's for any of the guests that wanted one. I of course grabbed one - I like free things and he was a good entertainer.

Before the BBQ today I laid out on my deck and read my book - I was only on my stomach for an hour - but that was enough to completely fry my back and the back of my legs - no I didn't wear any sunscreen - it's really tough to put sunscreen on your back by yourself. A gal I met at the BBQ said she uses the spray sunscreen so she can reach her back - good Idea - I'll be looking for some of that.

A Mixed Bag of Thoughts

Something Odd:

A lady got on the bus this morning carrying a board - probably between 2 and 3 feet long, 1/2 an inch thick, and about 3 inches wide. Now - that could be considered weird on it's own but this wasn't just a plain board - oh no - there were 4 door knobs attached! I kept wondering what she could possibly be doing with that board - at one point she put it up on the seat next to her and tried turning each knob. And Oh - these weren't modern door knobs - they were vintage door knobs - 2 were glass and 2 were ornate antique looking ones. Again I ask - why would someone walk around with a board and 4 door knobs?

Something sweet.

Something profound - this was on my cousin Haripurkh's Facebook last night -

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work…significantly increasing my odds of succeeding…eventually.

Long Weekend

My long weekend was productive and relaxing. Saturday and Sunday I worked on cleaning out my closet and moving things in to the spare room. It is looking a little more organized - except for the fact that all of my deck furniture is in my dining room! The Homeowners Association is having all of the decks coated - They power washed everything last week and this week they will be doing my building - they don't let you know which day though - kinda like the cable company!

Yesterday I did some grocery shopping and relaxed on the deck - brought a chair out there and moved it back in last night.

I also became completely addicted to The Deadliest Catch over the weekend! The Discovery Channel was having a Memorial Weekend Marathon of the show. I tell ya - once you start watching it you just can't turn away! It is amazing what these crab fisherman go through - dangerous working conditions to make a lot of money in a short amount of time - I found myself hoping that the cameramen were getting paid just as well - A couple times it looked like one of them was going to get swept off the boat. My favorite Captain was only on for one season of King Crab Fishing - Blake Painter from the Maverick. There are a couple captains that I'm not sure I would want to work for - Captain Sig Hansen from the North Western and Captain Phil from the Cornelia Marie - they are very harsh and they make their crews work unbelievable hours. One of the episodes showed the crew on the North Western working 48 hours straight - no break - brings up the question of whether they get bathroom breaks or if they wear depends!

Well - 3 Days left this week and then another weekend!

Vacation

Yesterday was a vacation day for me so I did no work around the house and ran no errands! I took Muppet up to the Klahanie Center where I got some Starbucks - we then found a place in the sun to sit - I read and Muppet sniffed everything! When we got home Muppet crashed - I think all that sniffing wore her out. I went out on the deck and finished reading my book - 1 book down!

Today is a regular weekend day so I am doing my chores! The sun is shining - which is rare for a Memorial Weekend in Seattle - after I complete the kitchen and living room, I am going to take Muppet to a park where I can read and she can sniff to her hearts content.
