Peachy Keen

I love this time of year - you can get so many good fruits - fresh and juicy. Last week I got a box of peaches - not just a few peaches - but an 18 pound box of peaches!  They were picked from the tree - put in the box - and delivered directly to me the same day from Valicoff Farms in Yakima WA.  They were in various stages of ripeness - some ready to eat right then and some that would be ready in a week or so - which is nice cuz really - who could eat 18 pounds of peaches!  I planned on using most of them for baking.  I like Peach Crisp!

Baking time was tonight!  L helped me peel and slice up the peaches - I then did the rest.  The mixing up of the crumbly sweet topping - the layering in the pan - and the staying up until it is done baking.  It is taking a little longer than I thought to bake because some of the peaches were a little crunchy so they need some extra cooking time to get tender.  I made one crisp in a 9 x 11 pan to bring in to work tomorrow and then a smaller one for L and I to share.  I also have a big tub of cool whip for work tomorrow - heated up crisp with cool whip . . . . . . . . yummy!!!!!

I had to do the baking tonight because Jason is going to be on vacation starting Friday and all next week - I couldn't bring in my Peach Crisp when he's on vacation - he's my taste tester!!

OK - crisp just came out of the oven and the smaller one I made for L and I has cooled off enough - here goes the test bite . . . . . . . . peaches are warm and tender . . . . . crisp has the right amount of crunch . . . . . . . . very flavorful . . . . . . might be a bit too much nutmeg or else I just have a taste bud for it . . . . . . . . . pretty good though overall.

Time for bed!

Quick Catch Up

OK - time to get caught up on everything.

Miss Chrissy - Seems to be recuperating from Friday's surgery and is getting used to wearing the cone of shame!  She figured out that she needs to keep her head up so the cone doesn't drag on the ground and make lots of noise or get caught on things.  She's supposed to be staying calm and not running around - she doesn't really understand that though - she keeps jumping on and off things and desperately wants to chase her kitties.  This is going to be a very long 2 weeks!

I hadn't seen my friend Lyd in 3 months - amazed that it had been that long.  In that time Hoyt has learned to walk, climb on playground equipment, wave, high five, and so much more!  I was able to spend time with both Lyd and Hoyt on Friday.  We hung out at the playground for awhile and then went to go get something for dinner - on our way to dinner Hoyt fell asleep so we went through a drive-thru, parked, and ate/talked while Hoyt slept.  At one point after Hoyt woke up Lyd had to run into McDonalds real quick - Hoyt started to cry so I played the Despicable Me app that I had on my phone and entertained him!  No more crying!

Saturday was spent mainly babysitting Chrissy.  She was so miserable - couldn't get comfortable to sleep, couldn't scratch her ears - she became quite the little cuddle bug - I had missed having a pup that wanted to snuggle with me.  Sunday I went up to La Conner to visit my parents - my Mom's brother, his wife, their kids were coming to visit.  It had been awhile since I had seen them.  It was a nice visit.

L Updates - not much to really update - still sitting in my house - still no job.  New drama issues - unemployment has run out - she has spent all of the money that I had been holding for her for savings.  Yeah - discovered that one when I went to take out money for her phone which will be coming out of my account this week and found that there was no money left.  Asked her what she spent it on - food and cigarettes.  Probably not something that you should be buying when you have no money coming in.  I am already completely stressed out about what's going to happen at the end of this month when her 3 months are up - as far as I know she has made no plans - surprise surprise.  The whole point for moving back in here was to save money for a deposit, get a job, find a place to live - she has done none of those things.  So living here hasn't really done anything for her accept to make her believe it's ok t just sit around again - she does nothing around the house unless I harp on her about it.  Anyone want to come by here Labor Day Weekend and be my muscle!!  I am going to need some help I believe  getting her out of here - won't that make for a wonderful birthday weekend for me.

This stress has gotten to me - I could feel a headache coming on last night - hoped that if I got to bed early and before it hit too bad I could stop it before it got intense - no such luck - woke up this morning with a migraine.  Laid in bed for most of the morning - that is until E showed up to hang with L and brought along a friend of his from the shelter - yeah, not very relaxing and quiet.  Beginning to feel like my place is turning into the Plateau Shelter.  I miss having the place to myself.

OK - Chrissy is giving me the - Mom lets go to bed - look.  I think I have caught you up on everything.

Cone of Shame

Little Miss Chrissy survived her surgery - no more "Lady Bits"  She did get a wonderful parting gift - The Cone of Shame!  Poor little girl - not a happy camper.  She gets to wear the cone for 2 weeks!  Not sure how I am going to get her to keep it on for that long.  She's also supposed to lay low - no active play.  Good Heavens - they don't know Chrissy.  This is going to be a very trying two weeks.

I will post a pic tomorrow of her in her beautiful cone!

Deadline Met

We started this week out with a big push to get everything done for close quickly - I felt like I was doing a million different things at once and worried I was going to drop the ball . . . . . . . I don't think  did . . . .and we met our deadline with time to spare!  Yea Us!!  We had a little bit of motivation to get things done - it was our office night at the Mariner's Game on Tuesday.  I have not been a big Mariner's Fan this year . . . . Losing Season Again . . . . . . .and no Junior to at least make it exciting.  I did go for the catered dinner though - Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chips, Cookies, Beans . . . . Yummy!  We also got 2 Drink Tickets - usually I will use one and then give the other away - this year I wasn't in the mood so I had water and gave both my tickets away.  I left before the game even started . . . . I know . . . you readers that are baseball fans are probably going WTH!!  Free game and you didn't stay!  I like baseball . . . . but I am a fan of football!!

Thank goodness for my new phone!  I used Google Maps and my OneBusAway App to catch the last 218 bus home.  The bus app lets you know when it will be at your stop and if it's delayed tells you by how many minutes - lucky for me it was delayed for 7 minutes otherwise I wouldn't have caught it.

I will be doing some baking this weekend - took delivery of a big box of peaches today!  They were picked form the tree and boxed this morning and then delivered to my work this afternoon!  I gave some to a few people at work - there are a lot of peaches in the box!  I love making Peach Crisp and Peach Pie!  I may just have to freeze some of them too so I can have Peach Dessert when they are out of season - wonder if fresh peaches freeze well.

Oh . . . because of the peach delivery I drove in to work today - didn't think it would be fun to take the bus with a box of peaches.  Anyways -  this coming weekend is Seafair which means Blue Angels which means closing down the I90 bridge for them to practice.  They had been telling us all week that the bridge would close at 945 - plenty of time for me to get to work.  What they neglected to say was that they would start the close down at 915 which would cause a 30 min backup trying to get across the bridge!  Un -freakin believable!!  This made me late for my usual early bird special parking rate so I had to move to the other parking garage that is another block away - usually not a problem but I had to carry an 18 lb box of peaches to my car!!!  Stupid Angels!!  There was a small back-up on the way home too - everyone slowing down to look at the boats already docked on the log boom and the other boats traveling to get there - come on people - you live in WA - never seen a boat on a lake before!  Really . . . really . . . Really!

Tomorrow is Friday - Chrissy has an appointment to get her "Lady Bits" taken out.  I wonder f she'll calm down a bit - I know boy puppies do.  She'll probably turn PMSy - all that hormonal stuff - she's going to be a crazy dog!

Soda Talk

One of the perks at my job is that we get free soda.  The refrigerator would be stocked every morning and then you could just grab soda, flavored water, or juice whenever you wanted.  A few weeks ago they changed from having the soda in the refrigerator to having them in vending machines - still free - much colder - don't run out of the popular flavors - more flavor choices.

Today when I went on my lunch break I was craving a Sprite - Sprite was one of the flavors we didn't use to have in the fridge - we had 7-UP.  So I pushed the button for Sprite and out came . . . . . . 7-UP!  WTH!!  This started a lunchtime topic of which do you prefer Sprite or 7-UP?  Kinda like the Coke or Pepsi debate - Sprite is a Coke product and 7-UP is a Pepsi product.  Most of the people who are Coke fans preferred Sprite!  Is this because of the flavor or is it because it is a coke product . . . . . hmmmm . . . . not so sure.

Which do you prefer?  Sprite or 7-UP?  Coke or Pepsi?

Losing The Interaction

What did we do before portable music and phones?  Did we talk to people more?  Did we pay attention to things around us?  Why don't we want to interact with each other?

The other day I was out walking Chrissy - we took the small loop around through Summerwalk and then down by the ball field.  As I watched people walk by I noticed that they all had ear buds in - either from an mp3 player or their phone.  I started thinking about the people I see on the bus and walking around downtown - the majority have things in their ears!  What are we tuning out?  What are we trying to avoid?

I know I put my buds in on the bus to avoid talking to anyone - I put them in when I'm at work to tune out the people around me - I wear them on walks to keep myself entertained.

I went on another walk with Chrissy and this time I didn't wear my headphones - I listened to the sounds around me - birds, other people, dogs, the wind.  I found myself paying attention to the things around me.  The next step is to ride the bus and pay attention to what goes on around me.

What are your thoughts?  Are you trying to avoid things?

Day 1 Close

Long day at work today - Day 1 of Close - got home after 800 very tired.  When I walked in the door I could smell something very delicious - I went in to the kitchen to find that L had made dinner!!  Baked Chicken, real mashed potatoes, and biscuits!  And . . . . . . . the kitchen was clean!  I love my "wife"!

It made up for this weekend.  E stayed the weekend and it was just too many people in this small condo.  I was feeling a bit claustrophobic.  Even though they were in L's room on the computer the whole weekend I felt like I couldn't be relaxed in my own house - You know - getting up to go to the bathroom in just a tank and underwear - never know who might be up and walk by my bedroom door.  Can't close the door because the cats will sit there and howl at the door and Buffy does know how to open it.

I did get into a creative mode - made some necklaces - I have had an idea for one in my head for awhile now - it felt good to get it out and created.  I haven't been in a creating mood for a while.  I will post some pics tomorrow.
